Reviews of Booragoon, WA

20th October 2022

"Changed for the worse!"

Overdeveloped area. Too many high rise apartments, town houses and units popping up around. Traffic congestion is getting worse. As someone mentioned in another review, don't like the fact apartments can be seen from your backyard or front yard. No privacy. It's justvggoing to get worse. Once good, not anymore.

"Overdeveloped neighbourhood"

Used to be a lovely area a few years ago. Now there are many high rise apartments and units coming up everywhere around the shopping centre. No privacy and horrible eyesore from the front and backyards of many residences, feel sorry for the older generation who have been living in Booragoon for a long time. Increasing traffic, congestion and noise problems which will only get worse as the suburb gets overpopulated, losing its reputation. Avoid!

"What's not to LOVE about Booragoon....."

Living in Booragoon never felt so easy, we have Garden City Shopping Centre (now known as Westfield Booragoon - but forever Garden City), quick access to two major highways either side of us in Canning Hwy and Leach Hwy that take you west to Fremantle or east to the Airports. But the Freeway to go north or south is on our doorstep. Not to mention the beautiful parks in almost every street along with Bluegum Lake and Booragoon Lake to take a stroll to. We have village shopping in next door in Brentwood. Our major hospital is a 10min drive. Convenient family friendly and fun social suburb to live in.

"A Family-friendly environment in a great location with great amenities"

My partner and I bought in Booragoon near Karoonda Oval and we are so glad we did.
After a couple of years searching for a long term place to call home, my partner narrowed our search to suburbs withing Applecross and Rossmoyne High School Zones for our future children to attend.
I am very investment minded and managed to snag a property at a good price for the area and we are very happy with our now renovated home on a large block. The long term financial upside is only one aspect however.
We have come to know our neighbours in a way that makes it feel like the good old days when you could ask for milk or sugar and we know and genuinely care for the people that live around us which is a vibe not easily achieved.
The transport links to the City (10-15mins via Kwinana Freeway) and Fremantle (10-15mins via Leach Highway) are fantastic.
The Booragoon Bus Depot is a short walk away and will take you all over Perth.
The Train Station is less than a 2km walk away and will take you to the city in under 10mins
The Shopping Center now known as Westfield Booragoon has all the retail shopping one needs although a makeover with restaurants and live music would add real value and sense of community.
The Swan and Canning River are both less than 5mins away in surrounding suburbs Applecross and Mt Pleasant which offer unrivaled views of the water and city.
South beach in South Fremantle is a great Dog Beach just 15-20mins away.
There are many dog parks and great health and fitness facilities in the area with Melville Aquatic Center and other various gyms.
Wireless Hill is a great spot for a picnic and view of the city.

I can only think of a couple of downsides which are not deal breakers in comparison to many other suburbs:
The occasional siren going past on Riseley and/or Leach Highway (Generally Ambulance but also Police and less frequently Fire) however good Double Glazed Windows in your house will muffle the noise.
The odd plane that flies over late at night (not everyday). I notice this probably once a month if that.

Overall a fantastic place to live. I have been in the area 18 months and have not witnessed or heard of crime occurring on my street or nearby streets. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to settle, particularly young families, long term to consider Booragoon.

"Simply the best suburb in Perth. This is where you want to live with your family."

It is the perfect distance from everything with just the right mix of everything you need or want. Just 2mins from the freeway, 1km from the Train / Bus port, Major regional shopping centre right in the middle, situated on high ground (no flooding), 2mins to the river, plenty of parks and mature vegetation, bird sanctuary, great school zones, away from the flight paths, 5minutes to the newest mega hospital in Australia, 7minutes to Fremantle and so much more. Job opportunities for my teenage kids at the shopping centre. Just 7minute train ride or 11minute drive into the city during peak hours. Yes, peak hour. Never had a break-in ever. Never even heard of a break-in or theft in the neighbourhood in all the years our family have lived in Booragoon. It is amazing.

"Great suburb! Close to everything and friendly!"

We moved to Perth 8 months ago and have lived in Booragoon for the majority of that time. So happy with our choice of suburb! It's close to everything: the CBD, Fremantle, freeway, airport, beach and river. It's safe and the neighbours are pleasant, we regularly take our dog for a walk around Booragoon Lake and see many friendly and familiar faces. Garden City is very close and is an amazing shopping centre. We have NBN at our house and have had great internet. Highly recommend this area!

"Safe, welcoming, great schools and community"

We moved into Booragoon 18 months ago and couldn't be happier! We were looking for a suburb in a catchment area of high quality schools and feel that we hit the jackpot because Booragoon offers this and so much more. Fabulous central location, an abundance of retail options, hospital and university close by, a choice of parks and sporting clubs. The only thing Booragoon doesn't have is restaurants - though there is a big selection in adjoining suburbs and I believe there will be new restaurants with the expansion of Garden City Shopping Centre.

"Can't expect any more for a living environment"

It'S been nearly three years since we moved into Booragoon and found all positive for the daily lifestyle needs. Frstly, my two children in school both in walking distance to SHS and PMY. Secondly, shopping is a highly pleasant experience in Garden City Shopping Centre. Quite central location to the city and south of river, to the coast and nearby river. Plenty of parks, restaurants and all other facilities we can think of it.

"I don't really want to live anywhere else."

I have a property that I live in across the road from Garden City Shopping Centre. I bought it 8 years ago and I personally believe that this was the best decision I have ever made with relation to Suburb choice.
I will paint a picture of living in my part of Booragoon:
- My neighbours are friendly and tidy
- Of course everything required is local.
- I can take a quick 5 min ride in my bicycle to the canning river.
- There is a bus station terminal across the road so I use it when I go to the city.
- Bull creek train station is a 5 min drive away (i.e. park and ride).
- I never have had any crime however I will say that once in the seven years I have been here I have had someone try to climb over our fence. Nothing was taken from our backyard.
- I have never read in the local paper or never heard of any home invasions or serious crime.
- Being off two main roads, there are hoons but that would be the same in any area where there are main arterial roads.
- In contrast, on most Sundays in the afternoon you can almost “hear a pin drop”.
- Thursday night (after late night shopping) you will hear the occasional teens making noise in the bus terminal but there are always several transit guards there to break them up and send them off. I have never heard of any issues there.
- One thing I don’t like is Saturday morning as it is inconvenient for me to drive out of my driveway as everyone is lined up at the lights to drive into the Garden City car parks. But this is not a reflection of the suburb but of my specific location and you will get that if you choose to live across one of Perth’s major shopping complexes!!!
- I don’t have children (yet) but I would feel safe taking them to the local parks (and there are plenty) for a play on the swings. I witness many families doing that exact thing.
- At night all I really hear is the occasional motor traffic but again. I live off two main roads.
- Public basketball courts are nearby as well as the Melville Fitness Centre which has just had $5mil thrown at it to make it “state of the art”. There is also a local tennis club and many other sporting clubs (do the research).
- I have two friends who co-incidentally live off Rankin way and they love how peaceful and quite the neighbourhood is. I am thinking about buying another property there!!
- If you can afford this area it is worth the extra cost for peace of mind that you are living in a well-established and safe area. Yes it is safe. I have done many late night rides and even jogs and never seen people loitering or behaving strangely. And this is over an 8 year period!!
- There is only one thing that annoys me (but nothing is perfect eh?) but around 11:00pm every night just one single plane goes overhead, but that’s it!!
I hope this helps you paint a picture because this is my 100% honest account of Booragoon.

"Central & Safe"

Once you've lived here, you won't want to move. It's great for young families and there's a major shopping complex 2 mins away. Wireless Hill is a lovely natural park and the river is only 5 mins away. Safe, neat, central - great!

"Friendly, quiet and safe...."

Have lived in Allerton Way for many years. My children have grown up here, attending the local primary school which is absolutely wonderful. They were able to walk or cycle to school, play footy/soccer in Len Shearer Park a few metres away, use the cricket nets on Karoonda, walk to the Aquatic Centre and even skate on the road itself as the traffic and width of the road makes it safe enough to do so. As they got older they were able to jump on a bus on either Riseley or at Garden City and go anywhere from there. The freeway access is so close via Leech Highway and Fremantle only 15 minutes drive. The train into Perth takes 8 minutes.

There are plenty of good dog walking areas around too and the river is very close.

Medical Facilities? Ultra modern Fiona Stanley Hospital being built 10 mns drive...St John of God Murdoch, excellent facilities. Lots of GP surgeries/after hour surgeries around. Late night chemist 5 mns drive from here.

Want to dance the night away? Not in Booragoon, I'm afraid but Fremantle and the city are really only a stone's throw alway.

The movies? Hoyts Cinemas are in Garden City 5 mns walk.

Retail therapy anyone? Garden City boasts some of the best shopping in Perth!

Secondary Schools? The list is too long! Excellent selection of both private and public schools, Applecross and Rossmoyne both highly acclaimed public schools.

Fantastic investment on property! Initially I had wanted to live in Mount Pleasant but found I got much more for my money in Booragoon and quite honestly the suburb is just as nice and offers more facilities for families.

We have it all :)

"Quiet oasis - family haven."

Booragoon is surprisingly tranquil considering it is so close to Leach and Canning Highways and the freeway! These main roads are very busy during peak times but the traffic is managed well lights etc. The suburb itself is made up of loops and culdesacs and so protects the locals from any through traffic. It is so peacfull!

It has many parks/playgrounds (small and large) and the local primary school is excellent!! It is a safe and friendly place and the Melville council are well known for being efficient in processing applications (we put up a patio recently and the company we used were pleased that they had to deal with Melville to get the permit). There are 4 large medical practices within 5-10 mins and Murdoch hospital is also close by. Garden City Shopping Centre is a shopper's dream (it also has quick access if you just want to do the groceries!) Myaree has almost everything else you could want to buy so between Garden City and Myaree you hardly need to leave the neighbourhood to get anything. The Melville fitness and Aquatic Centre is great and there are other Gyms and fitness centres in the area too, catering for everyone from babyies to seniors.

When we moved here from the northen suburbs (9 years ago) my parents wondered why, now they know! The shopping and services are great, schools are great, easy to get to anywhere from here, pretty, friendly, quiet - it's all good.
