Reviews of Seaforth, NSW

"I love living and working in Seaforth!"

Seaforth is safe and family friendly suburb with leafy streets, great water views and a small town feel. There are nice local primary schools, good boutique style shopping options, and best of all the beach and bush are right on your doorstep.

Seaforth has a number of beautiful parks and reserves. The walking track off of Seaforth Oval is a spot I like to go to relax and walk, and I can let my dog Mimi play off the leash on the oval.

For eating out I'd recommend the Thai, Italian, French and Indian restaurants along Sydney Road, which is also home to great cafes and the Seaforth bakery. Matree Cafe is a personal favourite stop of mine for my morning flat white.

Looking for a home in Seaforth?

"After 15 years I should know"

I was lured to Seaforrth from Mosman 15 years ago because I could buy half an acre of land with a busted down house for the same price as a semi detached in Mosman. I had to drag my wife screaming across the Spit Bridge but we soon fell in love with the peace and space offered on the Northern Side of that dreaded Bridge. In fact we are quite happy to see the rest of the world stay on the southern side. We raised our family and renovated our home over the years and frankly would now not wish to live anywhere else. In fact we both work here in Seaforth for McGrath Estate Agents following a 40 year career in the City.

Great for

  • Fast changing demographic where the majority of residents are now under 14 years of age.
  • Heaps of property value growth potential, large blocks of land and solid old houses that can take renovation.
  • A great bus system to the CBD aided by dedicated transit lanes that make the trip convenient and relatively fast.
  • Bush and beach on doorstep, Manly Council parking is free for Seaforth residents.
  • Mix of ages, stages, work, housing stock, hard to pinpoint a "type"
  • Safe, low crime, no graffiti etc - far enough away from Manly Beach resort to be safe, but close enough to enjoy

Not great for

  • Yep it's car centric but everywhere is these days
  • Becoming expensive quickly
  • Southerly aspects, extreme weather from time to time.
  • Buses, not trains. It's pretty car centric, although there is a free mini bus that circuits in North Seaforth to Manly that is kinda sweet
  • Expensive...it has been discovered. Renovated places in excess of $2 + million

"A mix of bush and beach, plus a village community feel"

We're raising our family here and love the 10 mins to the beach, the bush on our doorstep, the healthy outdoor lifestyle. We can walk our dog on the off-leash parks or zip to Clontarf dog beach. We have a few coffee shops and some good local restaurants to choose from, a brilliant boutique local shopping road....small but prestigious...probably unique in Sydney - with Country Road, Witchery, Seed, Blue Illusion and Kikki K plus homewares, bookshop, florist, medical centre, delis and gourmet delis. A sign of the type of people here - houseproud readers of Real Living/Inside Out at a guess. There's a few gourmet pizza shops but no McDonalds! We've got great primary schools...Balgowlah North Public School is tricky to get into unless you buy into the catchment area (North Seaforth gets you there). Seaforth Primary School also very good but split into two campuses which wasn't my preference. Bligh park pre-school is great with an emphasis on music. There's some excellent mountain biking trails around Bantry Bay Reserve off Judith St, also another planned for Bantry Bay near Seaforth oval. Lots of bushwalks down to Manly Dam (real wood barbecue areas - a family favourite). Not much plastic surgery...everyone's pretty fit and down to earth. A nice place to bring up kids. Very 50s in feel.

Great for

  • Bush and beach on doorstep, Manly Council parking is free for Seaforth residents.
  • Safe, low crime, no graffiti etc - far enough away from Manly Beach resort to be safe, but close enough to enjoy
  • Mix of ages, stages, work, housing stock, hard to pinpoint a "type"

Not great for

  • Very homogenous...I think we have much of the UK here
  • Buses, not trains. It's pretty car centric, although there is a free mini bus that circuits in North Seaforth to Manly that is kinda sweet
  • Expensive...it has been discovered. Renovated places in excess of $2 + million

"Seaforth - Northern Beaches Best Ever Suburb"

My family and I have lived in homes from Manly to Palm Beach and 18 months ago we moved into Seaforth and couldn't be happier. It has a great community vibe, Is fabulously located to the harbour foreshore, beaches and the city. The local primary school is fantastic and the "high street" shopping area has everything you need. Highly recommended!

"Seaforth - a suburb with panoramic views"

12 kilometres north east of the Sydney CBD is the Northern Beach suburb of Seaforth. It is in the local government area of Manly Council. It is bordered by Clontarf, Balgowlah, Manly Vale and Middle Harbour. It has a population of about 6,300, 29% of whom are under 18 and 17% of whom are over 60.

The suburb is located above Middle Harbour and The Spit and commands fabulous views of Sydney Harbour. It celebrated its centenary in 2006. Most of its development has been since World War II. The average price of houses is $1.2 million and the average price for units is $808,500.

The shopping centre has recently been expanded with the opening of the Panorama Shopping Centre. There are quite a few restaurants and Seaforth is home to the Balgowlah RSL Club.

Dalwood Children’s Home is situated in Seaforth. This home gives short term care to underprivileged and disadvantaged children. I can remember being asked to donate old clothes every year to the Dalwood Children’s Home when I was at primary school.

There is a primary school in Seaforth. Older children need to travel to neighbouring suburbs to go to high school.

The suburb is serviced by public bus transport. access to Mosman is via the Spit Bridge.

Seaforth is a very pleasant suburb with panoramic views.
