We lived in Hamilton Hill and Hilton for about 6 years. On the good side, Great access to Freo and Beaches. Hamilton Hill and Hilton are gradually changing as people are buying up and knocking down the older homes and rebuilding / subdividing. Hilton is the next suburb closer to Freo. Buses run fairly frequently into Freo and Perth from both suburbs
Price wise Hamilton Hill is cheaper generally ,to buy than Hilton. Hamilton hill is under Cockburn shire Hilton is under Fremantle . the councils dictate what you are able to do with your property and Fremantle council are quite tough. They supposidly want to keep the " LOOK, CHARACTER" of Hilton. so if that means if you like high grass, prams, broken cars.etc on your front lawn than you should be fine. Dont get me wrong we still have a house there ( rental) and it is a great place for investment for later years. Good idea to have a bit of a drive around if contemplating moving there just so you get a feel of the area.
On the bad side, Hamilton Hill. We were broken into 4 times and had a car stolen. So i will say no more. Hilton broken into once.

Most of the time I've lived in Perth i've lived SOR, living NOR, I did it once, I dunno, it just seems kinda... wrong somehow! I always think of NOR as really hot and far away from everything. Or as a friend put it "NOR, it's where people from SOR go when they get delusions of grandeur." JJ. Best way to travel to CBD is train if you're close. Otherwise drive. I've always liked living close to train stations for that reason. (So, Fremantle area, Brentwood/Bullcreek, Applecross/Como, Cockburn)
