I did answer this with a long winded reply but think it has disappeared.
SO many variables.Let us know more so we can help.
Private school? Inner City Home?
Without and further prompting I would suggest Kelvin Groove, Red Hill, Spring Hill and Paddington as all are not too far from Bus or Train and are close to a number of private and Public schools. Housing starts from $800K (although there is a three bedder coming up in Belgrave Street for $589K - 171 sqm block
