Reviews of Gordon Avenue, Elwood
"Gordon Avenue Elwood, a wonderful place to raise a family"
We’ve lived in Gordon Avenue since 1999 and raised our kids here, so we’ve had the chance to experience Elwood through many different stages of family life.
For us, one of the best things about this part of Elwood is how easy it is for children to gradually become independent. Our kids could walk through our back gate to play in the park when they were little, then walk to Elwood Primary School as they got older. Elwood also gives families access to an excellent choice of both public and private schools, which becomes increasingly valuable as children move through different stages of their education.
The beach, Elwood Village, cafés and parks are all close enough that walking or riding a bike often makes more sense than getting in the car.
Gordon Avenue itself has always felt peaceful and neighbourly. It’s a beautiful tree-lined street of predominantly Edwardian homes, with a genuine sense of community. Over the years we've known our neighbours, stopped to chat in the street and watched different generations of children grow up around us.
What we’ve particularly loved is the balance. You can walk to the beach or village and feel very much part of Elwood life, then come home to a quiet street surrounded by trees and greenery.
After living here for more than 25 years, that’s probably what we value most. It’s an unusually easy place to live: connected without feeling busy, close to almost everything you need, and a wonderful place for a family to grow up.
