Im glad I secured a house here when I did as prices have and will continue to go up. Buyers priced out of Hampton and Black Rock will be pleasantly surprised to grab a deal in Highett. Great restaurants and shops in the villiage and beach close by. Wonderful selection of schools and with the level crossing being removed, a huge eco development and development of nearby commission housing it's just going to go up and up.

Highett has certainly transformed into a chic locale.

The local residents get to enjoy a choice of restaurants and bars, cafes with quality coffee. The shopping precinct also consists of a large Woolworths supermarket, BWS, hairdresser and more. The underground parking for Woolworths is also very handy when it's raining outside.
For families, Highett has plenty of parks that are safe for all kids of any age.

A very popular primary school, known as St. Agnus Primary is largely central to the suburb.

For commuting, there is access to Highett Station and bus, with a short 30 minute train ride into Melbourne CBD.

Highett is a great location for young adults, singles, families and the elderly. It caters for anything and everything you may need.

Highett is a great little suburb with lovely cafes, a fairly large Woolworths and access to public transport.

The main issue is the railway crossing that goes across Highett Rd and also Worthing Rd. It often gets stuck, causing major traffic jams...an added headache in peak traffic.

Otherwise, it’s lovely. I’d love to see an increase in multiculturalism here someday soon.

Highett offers a brilliant bayside lifestyle. If you work in the city and can get within a 15 minute walk of the train station it's great, only 30 mins on the train to the city and there are great bars/restaurants/coffee shops near the train station so an easy date night and walk home. There's green space at Peterson Reserve, and numerous other playgrounds, with an additional 3 hectares more to come with the development of the old CSIRO site. Southland is an easy 5-10 minute drive, and Sandringham Village/Beach less than 10 minute drive, or around 10 minute cycle. Lots of playgrounds, great schools and day cares, and friendly people. Highett is fast-gentrifying, has a great energy and is an excellent place to call home, especially for young families.

I have lived in the area for over 20 years and have always been happy here. Great for families and young professionals alike. Highett road has been going through a transition and is now a great place to go out for a drink and or great coffee. It still has a small community feel with all convenient amenities and transport needs. Not far from the beach, city and all of the high end suburbs you can’t go wrong living in Highett. The only complaint is how busy it is getting with people building side by sides the traffic has increased - luckily the highway is close enough to head north or south you can get anywhere you want quickly and easily.

It depends which part of Highett you are intending of living in. It has many nice areas - but if your looking to buy, I would recommend buying underneath the Nepean Highway line (beachside of Nepean Highway), preferably around the Bay Road area which is close to Sandringham College and the Sandringham College Junior Campus. Its the area which borders on the Sandringham suburb boundary edge.

Close to shops including Coles, Woolies and Aldies and other shops and not forgetting Southland, easy access into the Melbourne CBD and close to the beaches along Beach Road - only about 5 minute drive, this place has everything, including a reasonable price tag - Still!

If you can get into one of the quieter streets around the Sandringham Junior College Area its excellent. It would be better if it had more parks and I feel council should look to buyout land in areas where there isn't residential development and implement a green strategy ie, for example on Advantage Road.

So its excellent - just more parks would be nice and it would be a great area. The prices for homes seem reasonable, especially compared to Sandringham and Hampton so its an option for families looking for something cheaper but still getting the 'Bayside Lifestyle'. Highly recommended Suburb for mine and it should be much higher up the suburb ratings than it is in my opinion. A secret that probably will get out as people are priced out of much more expensive suburbs like Sandringham, Hampton and Black Rock etc.

This once-quiet suburb seems to be undergoing rapid change. The village is springing to life with new shops and cool cafes, along with the essentials - not one but two local butchers, delis, bakeries, newsagents, doctors, dentists, physios etc. And the convenience of the new sharp shopping centre if you don't feel like driving down to nearby Southland. The trains run every 10 mins and there are plenty of buses. A library on the high street and a community centre with playgroups and classes a short walk away. But the best thing? The wonderful sense of community. Where your neighbours know your name, and the sweet old ladies walking their dog stop to say hello, the barista at your local knows just how you like your flat white, where your local wine store stocks a fantastic and affordable range of decent reds to go with the award winning sausages made on premises of the award winning butcher. A quick drive to Sandringham and Black Rock beach on the weekend to enjoy a walk and the sunset.

We live on Rowans Road and it's brilliant. We were worried about the potential traffic at first, but it's not even noticeable. A short walk to the station and a quick scoot to the Nepean Highway to drive in to the city. REALLY useful if you have to commute.

It's still relatively affordable compared to Sandringham next door, but others seem to have cottoned on to this little gem and prices are starting to skyrocket. Unsurprising really, you can't argue with the geographical location. Probably more of a wonder that it stayed afforadable for so long.

The downsides? The lack of nightlife! Oh, for a decent bar / restaurant. Or three! Although judging by the growing number of hipsters spotted down the village, this is probably imminent.

I lived in Highett and started our family there we lived in Peterson street and loved having the park and playground over the road from our home. We enjoyed walks to the skate park on highett road and the little park at the end of ashwood ave. The area is constantly on the improve with renovations, new homes and units being built. You only have to look at the prices of property in Hampton to work out that Highett is great value bayside of the train line and has a great future, I am a true believer and still own property in Highett. The new shopping centre is excellent. Buses run along Wickham and Highett rds and the train from Highett shops so transport is pretty convenient. A trip to the beach is best by bike or car but still convenient. Southland sc is close by also highett values are slightly cheaper on the east side of nepean hwy. Quiet friendly place to live.

Our young family bought here recently on Rowans Road. Unfortunately that's noisier than we expected. However, most streets when we go for walks are very quiet with lots of character. Access to great parks, rec facilities and the beach is a big plus. The biggest thing for us is the regeneration of the shopping strip. It will be great when the Woollies is finished and even more cafes and food shops, in addition to the great ones we already have, move in. It's still a pretty WASP suburb, but one presumes it will be the next suburb down the train line that gets more multicultural - if Ormond and Bentleigh are any indication.

Noisy, dirty and smelly
