At almost 100 years old, the beautiful cottage at 23 Gooseberry Hill Road has witnessed a lot of history. Lovingly hand-built in 1927, generations of the same family have grown up playing in the extensive gardens, treading the Jarrah floorboards, and imbuing the walls with love and laughter. This incredible property is ready to be passed onto new custodians to start their own family traditions, or perhaps imagine a new direction for the home while keeping the spirit alive.

Driving up towards the home it peeks out between trees before opening up, truly like a home from a TV period drama. Sprawling cottage gardens, the lush lawn and a wrap around veranda complete the look and the feeling of stepping back in time. Inside, lovers of Federation style will be thrilled with plenty of original features including wide Jarrah floorboards throughout the home, high ceilings, original Jarrah door frames, skirting boards, doors and window frames.

A wide central corridor provides ample landing space for the bedrooms, bathroom and study. The main bedroom can accommodate a king size bed and includes built-in robe plus a reverse cycle air conditioning unit for those really hot nights. The two other bedrooms will easily accommodate queens size beds, or if you've got kids then the high ceilings provide ample space for bunk beds! A small study or nursery space completes the sleeping quarters, which has potential to be transformed into an ensuite for the main bedroom should you choose. The family bathroom has a separate shower and bath, with plenty of bench space for everyone to get ready in the morning.

The living spaces are divided into two lounge rooms, either to be used as a formal and informal lounge or as summer and winter rooms, the spaces are versatile to suit your personal needs. The formal lounge, or winter room, has a kerosene heater, decorative lead-light door to the veranda and newly installed plantation shutters framing views over the garden. The informal lounge or summer room, has a gorgeous archway to the hallway and access to an enclosed sleepout, perfect for four legged friends to have their own space or as a playroom for children. The kitchen offers a partially renovated space to cook in, with custom cupboards, stone benchtops, a freestanding cooker with 4 burner gas cooktop and electric oven. There are some original cupboards and benches as well, plus a multipurpose kitchen island with granite top and a European style laundry.

Positioned to take in the best of the winter afternoon sunlight and shaded from the worst of the summer heat, weekends and evenings can be happily wiled away in the garden with friends and family under the gazebo, with the 80 year old climbing roses delicately scenting the spring air. For the history buffs who recognise the address, this is also the site of the crash of The Blue Goose 19.4.1945, a significant moment in the history of Gooseberry Hill. The family have worked with the Kalamunda Historical Society to place a beautiful plaque in memory of the lives lost at the crash site at the rear of the property. As custodians of this stunning property, the new owners will have the rare opportunity to become a part of the fabric of the history of the hills.

Blue Goose Plane Wreck 1945

War-time plane crash: In 1945 a US Navy DC-3 plane, the Blue Goose, crashed in Gooseberry Hill following an early morning take-off in heavy fog, bound for Adelaide from Guildford Airport (now Perth Airport).

The airplane was built by Douglas Aircraft Corporation and because of its blue colour was affectionately known as "The Blue Goose". It arrived in Australia in 1944 and was classified as a utility training unit assigned for general duties for the US Navy. The thirteen crew and passengers on the flight, including three US Red Cross nurses, all died, making the crash one of the most significant in Western Australian aviation history.
