Moving from Sydney to Melbourne

Hi All,

We are a young family with an year old baby and two small dogs.

We are moving from sydney to melbourne due to job change, wondering which areas are best to live in - something safe and with good public transport.

I'll be working in CBD and my husband in south yarra, we are not sure whether we will drive or catch public transport...how is the drive from areas like Newport, Footscray ?? looking for a house/townhouse with max $400/per week rent.

Also how is Melbourne weather ?

Any help will be much appreciated as we are very confused.

Thanks
RNK

Newport is a great suburb but it's on the other side of the shocking West Gate bridge which is a carpark at best. I doubt you'd find a house or townhouse there for a maximum of $400 or less per week. Footscray is better to drive to and from but it has a very bad reputation, crime is high due to the ethnic groups it attracts. You may find something around Docklands or West Melbourne, even Travancore or Moonee Ponds would be good.
Melbourne weather is known for 4 seasons in one day. We'll have a 3 day run of 30 degrees then all of a sudden a 15 degree day will be upon you.

Hi, if you are catching public transport then there are some lovely pockets in the inner West which will be more affordable than around South Yarra. The areas that I can recommend include West Footscray, Seddon and Yarraville. Each of these areas has a strong community and is services by public transport. Good luck with your move!
