Secret Harbour is situated between Rockingham and Mandurah WA. This beautiful suburb is very close in proximity to some of Western Australia's most beautiful surf beaches. "Moved from over East"
Recently moved to Secret Harbour from Melbourne only 6 months ago and we have fallen in love. The suburb is clean, green and well maintained. The beaches are beautiful and it's not hard to find yourself a nice quite area on the beach alone. There is also a dog beach for our fur babies. The local shopping centre has a Coles, Woolworths and Aldi. Among many other shops like jewelers, cheap shops, newagency, AusPost and more. Check out Secret Harbour butchers - amazing produce! There is a Dan Murphys here too and a McDonalds. Anything else you need you can find near by in either Rockingham or Mandurah. Fishing is great close by at surrounding suburbs. Our son attends Comet Bay Primary school and so far so good. He settled in excellently and his teacher is amazing. Overall it's a safe and friendly neighborhood and we love it!

"Secret Harbour - Theres a reason we keep a secret!"
Secret Harbour is one of the best kepy secrets in WA. It has beautiful beaches that dont get too busy, great for surfing - you do need to make sure you understand the ocean if you are planning to swim in Secrets becasue there can be strong rips. There is a great surf life saving club thats always looking for extra members, fantastic new shopping centre. Great schools in Comet bay primary and High. Hopefully there will be a train station soon! Highly recommend checking it out - feel free to call me Martina Berry Director Professionals Rockingham [email protected] or 0432367281 if you are looking to move to Secret Harbour

"Great community spirit and the beach on your doorstep!"
We moved to Secrets 2.5 years ago, choosing it for its location (bang inbetween Rockingham and Mandurah, both of which are great places to visit and full of tourists in summer), its beach lifestyle, competitive house prices and the little high street with restaurants, bars, salons, etc. (not many places over here have high streets).
Since moving here we've been relieved to discover that the schools (that we'd prayed were good) are, in fact, excellent... that the people are lovely and friendly (lots of Poms here!) and the area is as safe as you're going to get for a town of over 12'000 people (we've had a few incidents over the years but most of the offenders weren't local and we were merely the unfortunate target of their criminal endeavours). The shops are great (the mall is a great place to escape the summer heat), there are a few beaches (1 patrolled, 1 for dogs and 1 (near us) mostly quiet and devoid of people so you have the place to yourself), health facilities (doctors x 2, dentist, hair & beauty parlours, alternative therapy / massage establishments, etc.), community centre with rhymetime for kids and health visitor appointments for babies, a park and playground around every corner (the new one at the surf club is fantastic), lots of BBQ areas (all of which can be found on the GrillSeekerApp) and of course our world-class golf resort - Secret Harbour Golf Links. It meanders through the suburb and has some houses backing onto it (the Spyglass Hill area). The community spirit in this area is fantastic - from supporting people who've gone through bad times or suffered at the hands of criminals (not a common occurrence, hence why when it does happen it's such a shock), to organising fundraisers for the victims of the 2019/20 bushfires....
We found this place by accident (we'd actually decided on somewhere NoR but came south at the last minute, just to rule it out!) but now we wouldn't be anywhere else. We prefer SoR as it's cooler (by a good few degrees!), quieter with less traffic, and also it's closer to the awesome Margaret River region. If you want to see kangaroos you need go no further than Karnup Road (near Stakehill Winery) or Lakelands, in an enclosed area of bushland opposite the houses near the lake. We get the odd snake, as does everywhere over here, but a quick post on the residents' page will have a snake catcher at your doorstep in a jiffy! Oh, and on the subject of the local residents' page... take what you read with a pinch of salt because some people have too much time on their hands and like to whinge (usually the Aussies rather than the Poms though, strangely enough!).
So come visit our lovely suburb and see why it's been kept such a 'secret' from the rest of the world ;-)

"More negatives that positives"
I worked for a number of years in Secret Harbour as a relief teacher. Firstly, the two primary schools in the area are nothing to write home about. They both classify as underperforming when compared to similar schools. The high school is rough as guts and many of these kids hang around Mc Donalds and the shopping centre during the day AND night. If you don't like teenagers, stay away because Secret Harbour is teeming with them! And for those people saying no hoons? There was a double fatality not that long ago as a result of hooning.
"Beautiful coastal town!"
Leafy and green, gorgeous beaches, perfect family suburb.
We moved here 2 years ago and absolutely love it here, our family settled very fast after making the move here from over east.
Some really lovely family run businesses and our kids love the local primary school they attend. The new foreshore playground is great fun we have everything we need close by.

"Secret Harbour - A Suburb for Families Young and Old"
Having moved here in 2008 from the east with my young family I'm not planning on going back. To expand on some of the ratings:
Clean and Green: With the golf course and larger than average block size, Secret Harbour gives you a sense of a very well kept country town. Council keeps the parks and shared areas; including ponds, lagoons and parks, play equipment in reasonable shape.
Peace and Quiet: No doubt closer to Ennis Avenue would get traffic noise, but for the main Secret Harbour is very quiet, apart from the sound of crashing waves. These waves can be heard back to about 50m West of Warbro Sound Ave. Not complaining as its good to be reminded that the beach is right there.
Nightlife: While there is one pub in Secret Harbour, I would not recommend Secret Harbour for singles. While "the kite" gets busy on Friday and Saturday nights in summer, the rest of the week Secret Harbour is very quiet in the evening. This is a positive in my view. For those complaining about thugs at night and such in other reviews, I am not sure where they have come from as relatively speaking it is a very safe place compared to nearly anywhere else I have lived or traveled.
Shopping Options: Expecting that with the new shopping centre with an Aldi, Coles plus keeping the existing Woolworths, we will have everything we could want? Dan Murphies, yes getting one of them too apparently, plus more food options.
Food options: There are enough here, but for something different there is Rockingham and Mandurah only 25 minutes drive away.
Internet Access: It is slow but at least it is unreliable... If you plan on working from home and require fast reliable internet check first and buy / rent one of the 100 odd houses in the suburb that will have NBN before 2019... Lets just hope NBN comes here before it gets cancelled and this problem resolves itself in a few years.
Safe and Sound: It is good to live in a part of the suburb where we can look out over a park and watch our kids play on weekends. Giving them enough space to get a sense of adventure etc. Very safe during daylight hours at least in our experience. There are snakes about but this is a byproduct of having so much water and open space about. Have the snake wranglers number handy especially if you have animals should one venture into your yard.
Parks and Recreation: Beach is great. Only patrolled at peak times. Can walk dogs and fish (Tailor, Herring, Whiting and occasional Mullaway) from the northern entrance to the beach. Beyond the southern entrance is a patrolled beach that gets its fair share of surf. In addition to beaches plenty of parks and a fair variety of kids sports going on with plenty of local sporting teams.
Lack of Traffic: Well lets face it, it's 50km odd from the city, so no traffic within Secret Harbour. If your job entails going to the City then plan on catching a train. This works quite well, and trains move faster here in Perth than east coast trains. If you are driving avoid peak times and you can drive to the city in under an hour no problem. During peak times this trek takes 2 hours and on a bad day even longer.

Our kids started out at Secret Harbour Primary as we lived in the older part of the suburb, beach side of Warnbro Sound Ave. in rough terms this side of warnbro sound ave is the catchment for this school. It is a good school where we had dramas with only 1 out of the many teachers our 3 kids were exposed too. We have friends who send theirs to Comet Bay primary and they rate this highly too. The catchment for this school is the Ennis ave side of warnbro sound ave though there are some exceptions.
The public highschool we have heard some very good news about around sports programs and even academic performance, though unfortunately also some bad around fights / bullying so have moved our kids over to Mandurah Baptist including our youngest now that the oldest is well in high school and the others are getting closer. They all catch the bus together which drops them from secret harbour, right to the school. While it is called Mandurah baptist it is in lakelands which is only a 13 minute drive from secret harbour.
1 year on the suburb now has 3 supermarkets so Woolworths is being kept honest. Parking is now better at the shops but I do fear they haven't really planned for the future. I dread the day I have to do a second lap to find a parking spot at the shops... I would change nothing in my review a year back with still no plans to move away from this great suburb.
Not sure why paragraphs didn't work above? Sorry but it seems I cannot edit comments...
"Costal living at it's best"
Having moved fro the city to the area over two years ago, the adjustment wasa huge struggle for me. But, the price of housing and the accesibility to many free amenities has definitely made this my much adored home. There is alot of youth hanging about up to no good, but that isn't significan to this area, we lived in Mount lawley which was worse for pety crime and yet it was a much more upscale. I love that there is so many unpopulated beaches around, so many parks and areas great for walking the dog and riding bikes with the kids. My only concern is the lack of medical facilities for a pregnant women. But, that is more to do with the public health sector and not secret harbour. Besides that, I love it here and am so glad we made the move.

"A once lovely community being swollan out of proportion by greedy investors,"
Schools can't cope and infrustucture is ailing, lack of police station causing a dangerous little enclave of crime, graffiti a nightmare! and a proposed new housing estate tagged on to cause even more grief. Beachside cafe has closed and BMX park is gone, dirty tatty foreshore.
Not great for
- Cafe that sold those burgers has closed down

Having a police station will not bring down crime. A strong neighbourhood of appreciation and awareness will always outway the criminals. Having lived in the area for many years the changes that have been made have been for making a safer community for the future.
I find the area strongly overpopulated with English people! The children of the newly arrived residents seem to have caused the issues that PommyAussie has highlighted!
That's slightly unfair to brand all English kids as thugs, do you not think its the parents job to install respect and manners? I know I do I also know that I teach my English children to be respectful of all people no matter where they are from.
Nunya, you are an absolute idiot! It has nothing to do with English kids at all, it is down to the parents. I think you should stop branding English people as the issue as, i have witnessed a lot more Australians and Aboriginals causing more trouble a lot more often.
Hardly any real crime compared to most other suburbs. Very little graffiti around. Foreshore is beautiful. PommyAussie has No idea what theyre talking about.
"A Wonderful Escape from it all!"
I have recently purchased a home and moved to this location. Coming from Fremantle, it is a wonderful escape from the hustle and buslte of city living. And still a perfectly comfortable drive to my workplace in Fremantle. I have noticed nothing but friendly poeple, nice, helpful staff at local shops and facilities. Althought I do not have children, I live close by to a school and it is quiet and people are courteous with thier cars and parking.
I must agree with another review that there is the odd screeching of a hooligan in his car at night but I heard way more than that living in Fremantle. Secret Harbour is now my home and I'm so glad I made the move. Peaceful, quiet and relaxed.

"Great place, shame about the minority"
Beach on your doorstep, a Top 25 nationally recognised golf course, tennis courts & Pub of The Year - WA - what more could we ask........well ! The pub is getting a reputation as a place for fights on a Saturday night & there is a small yet nasty little crowd of older teenagers who hang around the petrol station at the weekends, & they have been known to beat people up !
Lack of Police presence is a real issue..... If things dont change, I will move from the area, which is a shame as it is a fantastic place to live....

Being a resident here for 14 years I am aware of the youth hanging around! I think you will find that a majority of the fights ate caused by drunken adults leaving the pub! Once again majority of these are English! I would recommend buying a one way ticket back to the London slums where rhey cane from! I would lime our lovely little family suburb back!
I would recommend that you should sell your house, stop your direct slating on English people and move elsewhere if you have any issues.
Teenagers hanging around, really . Every suburb has teenagers and yes they hang around.
"10/10"
Secret Harbour is a fantastic place to live. The parks and beaches are perfect for exercise for all the family and the residents are extremely friendly. I am particularly impressed with Comet Bay Primary School. The teachers are focused and dedicated and truly have the students' best interests at heart. They go out of their way to make sure that students feel happy, safe and open to learning opportunities. It is the best school I have encountered in the area and would highly reccommend it to new residents. The 'Whistling Kite' is a welcome addition to the Secret Harbour nightlife. They serve good food and offer a relaxed and inviting atmosphere to residents. Overall, I love living in such a peaceful, welcoming and friendly suburb.

"Everything a family could want in a suburb"
Positives of Secret Harbour: Great for families; friendly, social community; one of the best surf beaches in Perth; lots of parks; excellent local pub/tavern (Whistling Kite) with a classy atmosphere; close to great waterways for boating; peaceful suburb with quiet streets, good schools; good community shopping centre; good transport system; great area for the health conscious family or individual; State Swim swimming school in the suburb; great golf course; friendly and supportive surf lifesaving club; lots of community events such as Autumn Fair, Carols and movies in the park; has a dog beach; halfway between Rockingham and Mandurah major shopping centres.
Negatives of Secret Harbour: Beach front needs to be revamped and modernised, needs to move away from the outdated 70’s style fish and chip joints (has the potential for something amazing); more footpaths leading to the beach are needed, have to walk on the road down certain streets; some areas still need developing such as around the town centre; Anstey Park quarter desperately needs some tree planting.

"Great for families, and very very quiet"
We have lived in the "break area of SH" for about three years now and find the place to be family focused and very quiet. We have young children and really feel safe with them playing in the neighbourhood, the streets are generally pretty quiet and in the evenings you can actually sit out the back and hear the surf roll in. People in the street always flick you a wave and smile or Gday which is nice these days and sadly quite rare in many areas.
There are lots of children of all ages living in SH, so obviously you have the usual banter and occasional mischief that comes from living in a suburb with lots of families but when compared to the range of other areas I have lived it really is pretty sedate. If you are after a place with lots of restaurants and a vibrant night life then I suggest SH is not the place for you, generally however most people move down here for the family aspects of life or for a beach side retirement.
The other thing which amazes me about SH is just how much free space there is down the beach. Even in the middle of summer you only have to go a few hundred yards from the central surf club area to get loads of space for yourself. For such a quality beach this is completely unprecedented in almost any metropolitan beach I have ever visited and as an avid surf enthusiast that has lived in five different cities the list is extensive.
SH is a really relaxed beach side suburb where crowds and hustle bustle are non existent. While the WA (wait a while) progress on things like restaurants and the like is frustrating from someone used to a more proactive pace of development "Over East" I would definitely recommend the suburb for families with kids or retirees who like the beachside lifestyle.

"Quiet neighbourhood with all the facilities"
Having lived in Secret harbour for numerous years I have seen it grow. The shopping district which includes food outlets and a modern tavern is ideal for a suburb which is placed between Port Kennedy and Golden bay. Locals are always friendly with a 'Hello' as you walk past. A mixture of retirees/singles/couples and young families give the suburb a friendly feel to all. If you are looking for a safe friendly neighbourhood with facilities Secret Harbour is the place to live.

"Best Place I will ever Live"
Having lived in at least 30 different towns around Australia. This is the only town for my family and I.
Since coming to Secret Harbour 3 years ago I can say that I am truly impressed with how this town and community have grown better as the time goes by. There is something here for everyone and the best thing is it doesn't feel over crowded.
There is no shortage of sports and activities for all aged children and adults and this helps make this town one of the healthiest towns I have lived in. We are not too close to any Industrial or Mining areas so we have nothing to fear about contaminated air. We all think it is the greatest place to live

"FRIENDLY SUBURB"
The best thing about living in Secret Harbour are the great people, facilities and it's extremely well maintained. There are sport facilties from the golf course, surf life saving club, nearby Lark hill (1 minute drive) with top of the state sports playing fields for soccer, hockey, teeball and rugby all available. Walking and cycle paths are everywhere and they are very well used, it safe to be out and about, even the kids because they are always used. All our neighbours are friendly, and the parents we meet to the local school are very welcoming to new residents, and helpful. The local primary school is excellent. While other suburbs have started to look run down after a few years of becoming established, the council mantaince that we pay a little extra for in the rates keeps it looking great. We always see the local kids heading down the beach, dragging their surf boards behind, if you don't want you kids to be couch potatoes it really is a great place to live. You see them at the skate park, beach or parks, and mostly they are a pretty good lot. The bus connections makes it easy to get into Perth, they run all the time, and there are quite a few different routes in Secret Harbour, making it easy to get around. The new pub is not bad for a meal, although a little too pricey for my liking. Mandurah and Rockingham are nearby for great shopping and plenty of great eating places and entertainment, just far enough away if you ask me, Secret Harbour doesn't get the crowds.

"Good to live in, but the hoons at night are a problem."
I live in Secret Harbour and have for three years. I have three children all with significant problems my eldest child in a wheelchair. The only unsafe thing is about this place is the hoons going through at a million miles an hour at night, and if you offend anyone walking past your house late at night they wreck your mailbox. I know it happened to our neighbour on New Years Eve wh ohappen to be selling next door. People are very nice in this neighbourhood as with halloween last year my 2nd child with ADHD was talking to people in her very friendly manner and people were very nice to her back I also think they thought her very cute.

We have lived in Secret Harbour for many years and never found hoons to be a problem, perhaps it's just your street? I would report it to the police, it's a shame to tarnish a whole suburb for perhaps isolated incidents?
I agree with Hallam, hoons are rarely a problem. This was an isolated incident and on a night (New Year's Eve) when something like a tipped over mail box and some form of party revelling is bound to happen in any suburb anywhere.
Not really any hoons at all. Every area has some of this
1 year later. How do you find it. We are relocating from SA and i am looking here. Have a primary aged student. Any advice would be great.
