"It's ok."
The rent is cheap and for the most part the area doesn't flood. Before moving here, it's definitely worth checking out QP's crime statistics and getting insurance quotes for where you're thinking of renting/ buying. The neighbours are generally pretty friendly, however, unfortunately there's a few groups of teenagers of a certain look that do get up to mischief during the holidays. If you're near a school or the shops, CCTV would be a good investment. The parks are constantly filled with litter and broken glass, so please be mindful when walking with dogs and children. In the past 3 years we've had attempted break ins at Easter and Christmas when we aren't home for overnight trips every year.
"Great place to start"
Bought a free standing house 14ks from the city. Plenty of shopping, restaurants and the Uni nearby.
Put up cameras the second week after moving in. The less desirables don’t bother coming past now. Neighbours are supportive and friendly. I can’t afford nearer in yet, pretty happy so far.
"Affordable up and coming suburb"
We bought here just over 5 years ago, bought a small cottage and have since renovated extensively. The area is conveniently located, have numerous cafes and dining options and has plenty of kids playgrounds and dog parks. Since moving here house prices have started to move north and there seems to be alot more new builds and renovations going on.
We Regularly go walking the dogs and have never felt unsafe in the neighbourhood. Alot of diversity which is great and alot more people out and about and exercising and taking there kids to the park then what there was 5 years ago says alot about where the suburb is heading.
There are a alot of rentals around but far less then 5 years ago, it seems as the area raises in value it's starting to be more owner occupied. Certain parts of the area are obviously not as good as others though I've found that in every suburb I've lived.
Friday nights can be loud if your close to Beaudesert road or the race way but I think sooner rather then later the car meets at Elizabeth St shops will be a thing of the past.
The council has upgraded alot of the parks and put new play and workout equipment as well as new toilets. The park on Mortimer road is set to have a new zero depth water park, walking track and skatepark sometime in the future.
Plenty of things to do like PCYC gymnastics, water play centre, parks, ice skating numerous eatery options and skatepark as well as well established football club, pub and schools.
Sunnybank, Sunnybank Hills and garden City shopping centre all very close aswell.
My family and I intend on staying long term due to location, ammenites and future property growth.
I believe once a train station is located in the area property will go through the roof.
Great undervalued up and coming suburb that will take off as it is one of last ones at the current price point on the southside of brisbane.

"Good little suburb close to everything (Merchiston st)"
We bought towards the end of 2017. Have loved it since great parks, lots of option with plenty of food nearby (Sunnybank) . The Oxley creek transformation project starting this year will be great to take the dogs out walking and kids out to play when finished.
I’ve found Acacia ridge is very centrally located you can get anywhere within greater Brisbane in under 30 mins in peak hour traffic which is great for me as I work all over. Non peak hour you are in the city in under 20minutes.
Most under valued suburb in Brisbane, only flaw would be distance to the coast which is 45mins. Which is fairly normal for the Brisbane area.

"Great for familys"
Great suburb lived here nearly a year purchased our home street is very friendly everyone looks after everyone here we were hesitant at first. But very happy we moved here all the shops you need are here so limited driving. We send our kids to a private school in Salisbury( already enrolled so didn’t want to change after move) takes 15 mins to drive there there is a few school options here that are said to be great as well. We are near the Woolworths my husband can walk to station in 20 mins there is also free lockers for bikes there. Very safe only a matter of time before people catch on what a great place to live future train station to come soon once that hits suburb will jump up in price.

"Lots of food and amenities at the doorstep"
I did a lot of research before i purchased my first home in Acacia Ridge. The area in which I purchased is very ideal for renting, it's extremely close to shopping facilities, parks, restaurants, good private schools and a pub. Plus it's close to the highways
if your heading towards the city for work. Acacia Ridge is undergoing a massive facelift at the moment, and expected to be an important business hub by 2030, which will offer a city lifestyle. At the moment, prices are relatively cheap, and there is a high demand of people wanting to rent property in the area, due to all the amenities and facilities.
Originally i purchased this home as an investment for the future, and planned on putting the property up for rent. But as i've been currently living at the property i can't see myself moving away now, i've fallen in love with the place and love seeing all the new buildings being constructed on my journey to work each morning. There seems to stigma to 'Acacia Ridge as just an industry area', but i'm positive it's all about to change. I've started to see a few business people walking around, 5 years ago this vision was merely impossible. The streets are clean, and new trees have been planted everywhere. Old homes are being sub divided, or demolished and restored with brand new homes. In my street alone I've already seen 2 houses been knocked down, and being cleared out to be replaced with new dwellings, and alot of old homes are being replaced with apartments or townhouses to increase the population and demand Acacia Ridge is seeing.
Virtually Flood free compared to neighboring suburbs like fairfeild and Rocklea
This suburb has a lot much potential, and i wont be surprised if Acacia Ridge becomes one of Victoria's important hubs in the near future. It has almost everything, a shopping centre, Garden city 10minutes away, Brisbane markets close by, qe2 hospital 5minutes drive away, a lot of parks, new housing estates, golf courses close by, good private and public schools, and a heap of employment opportunities. And commutes to work are no problem with a drive taking 15mins and 25minutes in peak hour and good public transport. With a new station to be built after the cross river rail. And an extension of the cross river rail to be 2km away to be built .
Believe me invest in this area before the boom hits, and read my words again in another 5-10 years and see whether you could of taken this opportunity or let it pass by. With some of the last LMR developments site under 500k. Acacia Ridge has been considered a low socio economic suburb for some time, and with all these improves made by the government and council, it's only a matter of time people will be coming to move here by the bus load.

"Great place, great prices"
At the end of the day, you pay for what you get. Except in Acacia Ridge.
The area is quickly shifting from what it used to be. To the new acacia ridge. No night life, but a quiet and relatively safe area.
Friendly neighbours. Depending where you live. But over all nice.

"Friendly neighbourhood"
We started living in Acacia Ridge one month ago. So far we did not find much to dislike about Acacia Ridge despite the facts that we were told about the reputation of Acacia Ridge being not as popular as other southern suburbs in Brisbsane. Friendly neighbourhood and quite a lot of local shops around too. I would definitely recommend Acacia Ridge to friends and families who are looking to buy their house in the future.

Hi Angelakim. We are keen to move in this area ( Acacia Ridge ). I have heard of suburb no nothing what it is like. We are very friendly. Do you know if there is any areas to walk your pooch?
"We like living here."
We bought in Acacia Ridge last year. It was one of the only affordable suburbs within 15km of the city. While it doesn’t have the best reputation, we have enjoyed living here so far. Really multicultural suburb and all our neighbours are friendly.
There are parks, great local pool and local shops. It’s not the prettiest, with a lot of old housing commission homes and sometimes hoons at night but our street is great with bushland across the road and lots of beautiful birds and wildlife.
Public transport lets the suburb down but if you can drive ten minutes to the train station it only takes twenty minutes to the city, the same as driving. Hopefully public transport is improved over the next few years.
There are four schools within walking distance and lots of childcare options. Ten minutes to Calamvale/Sunnybank shopping. Fifteen minutes drive to Garden City. Five minutes to the Rocklea markets. Ten minutes to cafes, there are a couple of local quality coffee shop options- Acacia espresso is great- friendly and great coffee and Bedouin Brew on Beaudesert road is also fantastic. New cafe has opened in Rocklea across from the train station. Lots of houses are being renovated. Great place to buy for first home buyers within Brissie limits.

"It'll do..."
It depends on which side of beaudesert rd you get but the archerfield side is a bit hit and miss. I've lived in 3 different streets here and i've had refugee neighbors who kill their own chickens over a few hours and are so loud, bikie house 2 doors down, crack head next door and across the road, agressive and disrespectful kids all over the road. Very high drug use in this neighbourhood. Lots of nice people though. There are gangs so be careful

"Grub Central Alright!"
I live here, wish I didn't at the moment. Too many aboriginals and I don't care if that's racist because they give themselves a bad name. Running around the streets in gangs with petrol containers and swearing. Outside 24/7, kids feral running wild. Noisy at night and also a lot of Asians that do not obey when you tell them simple tasks.
Great for
- Green and lots of trees
Not great for
- Public transport is limited to a few buses but train station is reasonably close and a new train station is planned for Acacia Ridge in 2015
- Sandy Beach needs to be re-opened- (wasn't that place fun!)
- They need to re-open that library already!
I wish you didn't live here either , Asians that don't obey simple tasks - really! Maybe they are just too smart to take orders from a bigot.
I haven't seen any gangs, not sure which area of Acacia Ridge you are talking about
There are a lot of people with dark skin at the park on weekends in Watson road- I have spoke to some of them - lovely people from a church group who meet up in the park with their family's.
I haven't heard any noise at night and I walk my dog around, single women and I feel safe.
Not sure which area op is in but its not my area of acacia ridge.
You will always get some bad people in the suburb but usually it's outwayed by the good. For me racist people are not the people I want in my suburb so if Jipn doenst like acacia ridge and wants to leave that would be an improvement to the ridge.
What is wrong with you Jipn? Obey you? lol you're a joke. You're giving yourself a bad name you miserable soul.
I have a friend who lives in this suburb and he hates it. I worked one day at the local primary school and never went back. Both primary schools in the suburb have feral, disrespectful, dumb, ignorant children with unemployed parents. I was called a f@#king white c#nt about 50 times the one day I worked at the primary school.....I think that says it all.....I could never live here.
"Best kept secret in Brisbane"
I rented a house here, loved it so much I brought the house. My street is so wonderful I know all my beighbours by name. Christmas and Halloween and huge as everyone goes all out on the decorations. My neighbours are always helping me out with projects on the house.
I fee really safe and have no problem walking my dog at night. I am located 10 mins drive from Tooey and Karathawa Forest so I often go for bush walks in the morning before work. The pool is excellent with really good cheap classes, it has two indoor pools so can be used year round.
There are regular buses and it takes me 8 mins to drive to coopers plains station. I have never had a problem finding a park at coopers plains.
Aldi has just opened up in the suburb which is really nice. Acacia Rodge is only 15ks from the city, it takes me 20-25 mins to drive right into the city. It takes me 10 mins to get to garden city. The house prices are really reasonable, however I have noticed they are going up.
I love this suburb, I love my street and my neighbours, I can't see myself moving for a very long time.

Hi Sharleen! I would love to get your feedback on the best streets/pockets to look into buying? We're looking at buying when we move back to QLD and have seen some well priced homes - however I'm only really familiar with North Brisbane suburbs.
Thanks!!!!
Nisha
Hi Nisha, I have only just seen this, so I hope this is not too late- the area that encompasses Hemsworth, Dunkeld, Wakely, Colborne, Oxley streets is the best area. The pocket over behind Woolworths is pretty good as well. Some pockets that are still a bit rough are Emily street - the side near Watson road, this has a lot of rentals:ex govey houses and people don't seem to care , but it is improving as they are sold to people who do them up. Also parts of Bellamy street arnt so good at the moment. It seems that the areas down near paradise road can have some issues. But I think this is all changing really rapidly. People are starting to realise how good acacia ridge is, prices seem to have gone up by $50k in the last year so if you are buying I would buy soon.
SharleenD, thanks for these comments. I know this is from a year ago but I'm keen on a house in Antrim Street. Just not sure because I'm working single woman with a baby daughter. I plan to buy here, but also to move if possible before she starts school.
Hi,
I just recently applied for a rental on BELLAMY street..and im NERVOUS after reading your comment. I sure hope this isnt the case. Fingers and toes crossed! :)
Hi Sharleen, thank you for your constructive feedback on the suburb. We are looking to buy in Merchiston Street. Do you have any advice about this part of Acacia Ridge.
"Anything and everything you want you can find."
Sweet suburb, there is a shop for anything you need. If you need to go further than Rocklea, Coopers Plains or Calamvale then you haven't searched hard enough. I have lived here for many years and have never had a bad experience. Lots of small businesses around and everyone is very friendly.

"Love it"
I grew up in Acacia Ridge and my parents bought a house there back in 1994 and are still there now. Despite whispers back in the day just because it's on the southside, it's a very safe, family orientated suburb. Friendly smiley people. Houses have defintely improved since the early-mid 90's. Lots of renovations being done to houses left, right and centre. Children still play hopscotch on the street rather then cooped up on the computer (I was one of them when I was a kid, a while ago now!) We've never had a break in or seen anything dodgy. Defintely an NRL loving neighbourhood. Many people have Broncos flags on there cars, or even on there windows. However, I have seen some Rabbitoh's, Eels and Storm flags of late. Close to it's own shopping centre (Elizabeth Street Shops). Big park. Ice-skating ring and water park (like a minature Wet'n'Wild) very close. Soccer club near-by also. Many great childhood memories. All it needs is to re-open that library which closed down!

"Good Suburb"
We moved here about 2 years ago and it reminds me of the neighbourhoods we grew-up in as a kid: lots of trees, families and friendly neighbours. The house prices are very affordable and so we really don't spend much more on living than we were when we were renting (in a more expensive suburb). We love to go running around the neighbourhood and I (as a young female) never feel unsafe. A great place to start-out as a young couple - we had always planned to only stay 12 months but we love it now and can't imaging leaving.

"A Great Place to Live....Merchiston Street"
What a great place to live. Super Convenient to everything we need. Prices on the homes in Acacia Rdg are still well priced for the first home buyer trying to enter the market or for people looking for a good investment property. We have raised our kids here and have always been impressed by the amount of great local parks available and by the friendly people we share our street with. It still surprises us with the amount of bird life we see here. Everything from flocks of Cockatoos and parrots in our iron bark tree in the back yard to feeding pier butcher birds and Kookaburras with the kids on the back deck. Pretty amazing really concidering we're so close to the centre of Brisbane City. Only complaint really would be sometimes we get poor mobile phone receiption in our street.....but sometimes that's not a bad thing!!!
