Reviews of Benalla, VIC
"Small, clean and clicky."
Beautiful lake and walking trails. I'm not sure I (or my pooch) could get sick of walking around at all!
Lovely relaxed, friendly people but they are clicky. Everyone knows everyone, and talks about them.
Absolutely zero nightlife. Most pubs are closed. Nice cafes but way overpriced. Limited take aways.
A lot of people only accept cash (including in stores). Many closed down businesses and empty buildings. Nothing is open between midday Saturday and Monday, or any late nights, apart from Mitre 10 and Woolworths. No good if you work full time.
Very limited in sports opportunities. A few gyms in town but they all do mostly the same things.
Quiet, peaceful, homely and relaxing lifestyle.

Pretty accurate Hume & Hovell thought it would make a good settlement site & called it swampy.
Benalla has real issues with minor flooding in East Benalla an open stormwater drainage system that floods the streets with heavy rain ie more than 65 mil in 30 mins apart from a health hazard, has been Heritage listed..say what ! Yes Heritage listed the bricks that line the stormwater ditch not drain are disintergrating.
Any attempt to drain excess water off East Benalla properties is futile.
Benalla people don't seem to think it's an issue.
Really progressive....
As Janer15 said, it's not that bad.
Once in 2010 the gutters overflowed but nothing since.
The council have cleaned the drains since then and it's been fine.
"Benalla booming"
Benalla is a booming town, lots of new industry and jobs, neat clean CBD, great parks and gardens its great. Smaller Benalla settlements like Lurg and Tatong are fantastic with wonderful warm and friendly people, wish I had left Melbourne and moved here sooner. Highly recommend Benalla regiona especially Lurg. So friendly, so welcoming.

"Peace and Quiet and very central"
We found Benalla to be a great place to bring up kids. The walking paths and parks around the lake are absolutely beautiful. It's also very central to larger towns if more specialized shops are required.

"a try-hard town that partially makes it"
The place works for a country town. Nice lake (that can flood the town due to bad planning), art gallery, old-ish swimming pool center and a small airport. Main street full of shops. Schools are good.

"Great Place to relax"
We have just recently bought a property in Benalla, we have say that the town is great beats city life, it's a great place to relax, walk around the lake, the people are very friendly, plenty of cafes' and restaurants to choose from, the townhouse we bought is just magnificant.
We love the place especially the close proximity to Shepparton, Wangaratta and Yarrawonga.
ENJOY THE LIFESTYLE

From someone that after 35 years, still feels like an outsider, everyone does know everyone but it's only ever been helpful to me.
I haven't used cash in 20 years, so I don't understand that.
The soccer club went quiet because there wasn't enough players, so if you're interested in sport, put your hand up. Other clubs might be in a similar position.
