Birdsville has an interesting past and being situated in Central Australia on the edge of the Simpson Desert many a tale can be told of the early history of the town. Birdsville was known as the Diamantina Crossing but today it is best known for the Birdsville races when the town’s population explodes. Enjoy a cold beer at the also famous Birdsville Pub. Today there are many modern comforts including motels and hotels, caravan parks etc. There is an aquatic centre, sports complex, a gymnasium and plenty of culture including art galleries and museum. Birdsville is the start of the famous Birdsville track that was once the major stock route into South Australia and many travellers follow this path.
