Pros:
- Fairly safe (could depend on the street, have had no bad experiences luckily)
- Central location <30 mins to get to nearby CBDs
- Lots of trees
- Plenty of shops and restaurants

Cons:
- People keep to themselves. Great for introverts like me. Not ideal if you love to have chatty neighbours or expecting everyone to be friendly
- Streets are very dark at night (not enough street lights)
- mediocre shops and restaurants

There isn't much suburb where you can still buy a house for under 1 million in Sydney.

It's not perfect but still liveable.

I have been renting a house near Chester Hill Public school for the past 6 months. Here's some observations from a relative newcomer.
Positives:
- Neighbours are friendly but mostly keep to themselves.
- Lots of schooling choices from public, selective, religious.
- Frequent buses to Parramatta, Granville and Bankstown.
- Handy train service.
- local shopping centre great, accessible
- some great takeaway outlets, friendly and fresh options
Negatives:
- area feels unsafe to walk around. Have gone for a morning stroll to witness junkies trying to break into properties. This was not a once off.
- witnessed mentally ill people on the streets and on buses threatening to harm others. Only seen this level of aggression in the city.
- many aggressive drivers who don't obey road rules, hence constant police presence on the roads. Everyone loves to honk their horns here. Regardless of time of day and seemingly often without reason.
- lacks sense of community.

It can be argued all neighbourhoods has a bit of crime, road rage, hoons etc. but I have lived 30+ years in Sydney, on the north shore, south west in Campbeltown and Liverpool area and south Sydney and can honestly say I have felt least safe here than anywhere I've lived. Though in terms of housing affordability, it's still considered very "affordable", I wouldn't choose or recommend others to settle here given the choice.

This suburb is hidden treasure and not many ppl know about it.... It's conveniently located close to Hume Hwy and M4. I have been living in Ian Crescent in Chester Hill for 4 years.. Chester Hill has nice food options, both the primary school and local high school, Chester Square Shopping center with all the handy shops.

Although the train service is not great from Chester Hill , specially if you are travelling to City during peak time..but I useally drive to Granville or Lidcombe, park the car and catch the express train to City ( 25 min ! ). I need to travel for my work ... and here's the stats: 10 min Drive to Parramatta, 45 min Drive to City , 30 min Drive to North West CBD, 30 Min drive to North Ryde CBD. It got all the major CBD coverd without any Toll roads like M2 and M7. Location wise, can't ask for more value for money ... And it's away from the crowd, green and leafy suburb with lot to offer.

I just spent the last 10 minutes reading through the other reviews on this suburb and I would have to confess that I think I was legitimately shocked beyond belief. I have lived my whole "teenage" life in this suburb and I can tell you right now off the top of my head that it is a horrid place. I'll be open with you I have severe mental issues, one of them being a severe anxiety disorder and believe me when I tell you that this suburb has been a major contributing factor in my anxious state, I can't remember how many times people on my street have been broken into, how precisely I have to plan my travels because of the infrequent public transport services here or the amount of times I have been verbally abused and threatened whilst minding my own business while walking. My family house is going on the market in a few weeks and I can't tell you how thrilled I am to be moving to a nicer suburb and I have vowed that I will never return here, so please do me a favour and don't subject your children to the violence of this hateful suburb.

Underated suburb close to the city without the exorbitant price. Plenty of room and you can still find big lots. You've got everything you need. Good public transport, train to the city in no time. Chester Hill and Chester Hill North are good schools, teachers care about the kids. If you're looking for a family lifestyle this is it.

Close enough to the city for work and fun, you can still get decent size properties or a townhouse. 15 minutes to Olympic Village. Great investor deails too,

A hidden gem of Sydney suburbia. Excellent selective high school, family oriented, clean air and room to grow a family. Around 30 minutes to Central by peak hour train, Chester Hill is a fantastic suburb to buy an old place on a big lot. Remodel, put in your own pool, make it your own. Chester Hill is a place where families live and let live. And talk about international - choose from Thai, Lebanese, pizza or Chinese - you can even get great sushi at Chester Square. The RSL is clean and family oriented and the community centre on Chester Hill Road is a fantastic resource as is Chester Hill library right across the street. Chester Hill has been home to Terry Lamb (football), Christian Heim (psychiatrist and composer), and George Betsis (international businessman). True value and a great place to buy in Sydney. Highly recommended.

Chester Hill is one of those suburbs that seem to have an image problem. However, if you get to know the place better and its locals, you will find that it is quite a charming suburb with very friendly people. It has it’s own shopping strip where you do get to know the shop keepers and they will eventually know you by your first name. There is always plenty of parking here for you when you need to do your weekly groceries shopping.

You will not get bored of the old fashioned tasting hamburger with the beetroot on it and bbq sauce from the hot food take away store. Food here is cheap too as you can get a hamburger for under four dollars. The local high school seems to also give the area a bad name with the obvious rough ups with the teenage boys, but which high school does not have the occasional meeting on the field after school?
