Reviews of Emerald, VIC
"A fantastic family lifestyle"
Emerald is the ideal place for families. It has a great community spirit, fantastic sporting clubs and plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants. There are plenty of things to enjoy like Emerald Lake, Puffing Billy and loads of walks and nature trails. Schools are easily accessible - even those out of Emerald. Public transport is not as frequent as the suburbs but it is frequent enough to get you to Belgrave train station for city travel.
A great place to live and for me, a fantastic place to work as well.

"Great place for families"
Perfect for family life. The local primary school is excellent and the kids have a good range of facilities open to them. Emerald is cosy enough without being too small. There's not much by way of nightlife and so if you're wanting pubs and bars, this isn't the town for you. But if you're looking for a relaxed friendly community, with good links to neighbouring communities, then it's a good choice.

"No traffic lights and good access to Melbourne"
Lovely part of Victoria, still has no traffic lights which is wonderful, however a Woolworths is being built and this may change this situation.
Lovely rolling hills, and not to cold or wet compared to Olinda area.
Great for
- Greenery, trees, people
Not great for
- Poor public transport and poor public toilets.

"Gateway to hills living"
The benefits of a quiet hills lifestyle without giving up too much in terms of proximity to shops and services. Emerald shops are a couple of minutes away, Belgrave (trains) is 10 minutes and Rowville/Narre Warren (Fountain Gate) is 15. Oh, and you can watch Puffing Billy go by every day!

"Wonderful place to bring up a family."
Emerald is a sanctuary. The village atmosphere is wonderful- saying hello to friends as you do your shopping or have a coffee at a cafe. The gorgeous walks at Emerald Lake Park or any of the forest areas in Sherbrooke Forest are a great way to get fit.
Children seem to be happy here with plenty of sports to play.
The wildlife is a treat!! All seasons are beautiful in Emerald.
The only thing I have wished for in my 33 years of living here are more interesting food choices for take away!

Emerald has at least two fish n chip shops, two thai restaurants with takeaway options, three cafes (Fox, Zest and General) plus the bakery, plus Incy WIncy coffee stop, plus two pizza places (one with sit in option), an Ice Cream cafe, Elevation restaurant, and an Indian cafe...... that's 14 places which is more than enough for Puffing Billy travelers!
"family friendly, beautiful surroundings and clean fresh air"
Emerald is a wonderful place to bring up your young children, with more parks and forests to explore then you can imagine.
No good restaurants though, and not one cool bar in sight!!!
so in a few words, great for a family but totally sucks for a young couple, unless you like driving everywhere....
A great little village, far enough away from the city to enjoy a clean, green lifestyle..

"A very safe and established neighbourhood"
Lovely to come home to. Beautiful birdlife. Quiet and peaceful. Very friendly town with great facilities. Very close to most places and not far into the city. I would very highly recommend Emerald as a wonderful place to live.

We were there on the weekend and there is one bakery (which was huge and was packed and obviously has a monopoly), one tiny cafe and an indian/chinese shop. Disappointing considering it's a stop for Puffing Billy but the bakery didn't seem to mind!
