"Home to Channel 10 Studios"

Forest Hill is well known for housing the Channel 10 studios, now owned by Fremantle Media and still used to film the long-running soap Neighbours. With a western border to Blackburn, and Blackburn South, with parts falling bordering the highly sought-after Blackburn Lake pocket. A variety of parks, walking trails and successful sporting clubs guarantee a place for people of all ages to enjoy the outdoors and physical pursuits. Aqualink is a popular destination and home to Nunawading Swimming Club which is one of the largest clubs in the Southern Hemisphere. An array of shopping precincts, Forest Hill Chase provides great shopping for food and fashion, nearby Brentford Square offers an iconic Woolworths plus a range of specialty shops, popular cafes and takeaways. If you're looking for diversity and convenience, Forest Hill will fit the brief.

"Schools, Shops, People, Cafes, Transport, Parks - Forest Hill is excellent."

I love living here. The locals, the people, the parks and the cafes. I have lived here about 15 years and really like it. You are close to public transport, off lead parks for the doggos and excellent cafes to satisfy my cravings. It is also close to primary and secondary schools, which is great for a growing family. It just feels like I can walk everywhere as Forest Hill truly has it all! Would love to answer any questions about the suburb too :)

"Lakeside, the original Forest Hill, north of Canterbury Rd, travelling via Forest Rd (The original Hill). Jean/Lake reserve area."

Forest Hill, north of Canterbury Rd might as well be Blackburn. Although, THE original Forest Hill (The Hill) around Jean-Lake Reserve which was open forest/bush prior to development in the 1980’s. Jean-Lake reserve is the remaining forest/bush at the elevation, the (Forest) Hill where children would spend holidays in days gone by. Walk to the Lake, Blackburn Station Village and Forest Hill Chase, plenty of transport. Low density single dwellings due to restrictive development to preserve Blackburn Lake Sanctuary and amenities, parks and open space. Highly valued and very hard to find properties in this area. Three train stations (Nunawading, Blackburn, Laburnum) within walking/riding distance. Buses to various destinations within a street or two. The Golden Mile shopping on Whitehorse Rd. 3-5 mins to the Eastern Freeway (No Tolls) to City. Not many areas can top this part of Forest Hill around the lake. Bike trails, sports grounds, swimming pool, Tennis, Blackburn Lawn bowls, Ten Pin Bowling at The Chase etc. Established inner-Metro living with 74 acres of wildlife and nature in abundance. Only 18 kilometres east of Melbourne CBD. It's not hard to dream...

"Best yet very affordable eastern suburb next to blackburn"

I have lived in Forest Hill for 15 years and love it for its shopping, transport options, easy access to all areas and where i live, its a beatiful leafy pocket of forest hill, like living in semi rural atmosphere.
Forest hill offers those who cannot afford blackburn a great option just nearby with still a short walk to blackburn lake.

"Good Value for money."

If you like a nice, safe and green suburb that is about 10 to 20% more affordable than its neighbouring suburb, look no further. Forest Hill is it! Look for the part of Forest Hill close to the Forest Hill Chase, it feels very much like blackburn/blackburnsouth, but you don't pay the high prices for Blackburn/Blackburn South. It is true that there are not much public transport in Forest Hill, but I drive and park my car to and park at leafy Blackburn Station and go to work by express train, so I am not fussed. It's location is close(within 10-20mins) to all the shopping centres I like to go. eg. Glen, Knox, Eastland, Box Hill, Chaddy, even Doncaster Shoppingtown. If you are like me, who hates crowded malls on weekend, come to Forest Hill chase, it is not crowded and still have a new Cinema and bowling alleys that bigger malls have. Not bad. Overall, I reckon you get bang for you bucks if you buy and live in Forest Hill.

Great for

  • Central to many ammenities and roads.

Not great for

  • Part of Forest Hill along the main 80km/hr Springvale Road might find turning into and out of the side streets a bother.
  • Busy roads
  • Poor public transport

""A fantastic place to live"."

Grew up in Forest Hill. Lived in other surrounding suburbs over the years. Forest Hill is a suburb with great serenity. Excellent layout. Local and multi-purpose shopping facilities available and a great safe place to start a family. Excellent school reviews, along with a vast selection of medical centres.

"A dull and awful suburb hemmed in by busy grid roads"

I really can't think of anything good to say about this suburb. It is the typical dull and drab "suburbia" as portrayed in the TV series Kath and Kim! A completely lifeless and boring area to live.

I believe the 5-star reviews posted on this site are from Real Estate agents, not from anyone who has actually lived here!

You need a car to get around because the public transport is hopeless in this area. Springvale road is a nightmare. There are no nice cafes, bars or restaurants.

The only pros I can think of are the Neighbours tours in nearby Pin Oak court.

Great for

  • Neighbours tours nearby

Not great for

  • Extremely dull
  • Poor public transport
  • Busy roads

(I'm a local, not an agent. )There are plenty of Restaurants and cafes that are great, in the shopping Centre, at Brendford square and other places too like the highly rated Persian flavours, and awesome coffee from the Jolimont. It has literally got everything, community gardens, schools, shopping centre, endota spa, pools, chemist, post office, and so so many other hand things. I believe Springvale road is great as it easily connects you with other suburbs, and has good bus routes too. What side of Forest Hill are you on?

"Fantastic place to live!! Very happy here, will never move!"

I have lived in forest hill for the last 5 years, and would say its a fantastic place to be, with its own shopping centre, now with nunawading station being upgraded and extra buses, close to both freeways and the schools are very good.

It is also very quiet and their is no violence,

id say this place is in the heart of everything, i would never move from this place!!

"A diverse suburb"

Forest Hill is a very diverse wide place with its ups and downs.
In the centre is Forest Hill Shopping Centre, which is very modern with many new shops, but business isn't what you'd expect. For example, on a Thursday night, you'd expect a shopping centre to be busy with people dining and shopping and be vibrant. It get's very quiet on Thursday nights.
The place is served by a moderate mixture of public transport - there are 3 SmartBus routes, although they go on each side of the suburb.
If location doesn't bother you, come live in Forest Hill, but if it does, be aware that it is exactly between the M3 and the M1, and between two train lines, making it quite isolated in a way from the freeway and the railway system.
Quality of life here is very good on the other hand. Power outages are unheard of, it's very quiet, burglaries and general violence is low. However, education is somewhat limited in choice, particularly public schools - the only options being Forest Hill College for secondary public education - and it doesn't seem very friendly. The school looks very modern, but at night, it seems like one of those gangster places.
