Reviews of Hobart, TAS
"Hobart is an attractive place and quite amazingly modern."
Being isolated from the mainland of Australia one could be forgiven for thinking that Hobart would be a bit behind the times, but it is not. Sure, there are still many heritage buildings around as there are in all cities, but Hobart has mixed the old and the new well.
Hobart is actually the second oldest city in Australia and armed with that knowledge you start thinking about the history that is in the area. They say that in Hobart you say you will do something, then you think about it, then you say again that you will do something about it, and then you do. They call that the laid back Australian way. I guess with no pressure from other areas you can afford to be so laid back.
As one would expect with an island city, fishing is a very strong industry here and Tasmanian hardwoods are another export from Tasmania. The hardwoods are very sought after for their quality and attractiveness.
The city lets rip at the end of every year being the end of the Sydney-Hobart yacht race, bringing hundreds into the city and a good time is had by all.

"It has everything"
Hobart has modern restaurants.. jazz bars ... modern shopping .. linked with heritage .. it’s the fastest growing capital city in Australia.. if anything the local government councils need to step up and move with its pace other than that ... it’s the best city to live and raise a family

"Not such a friendly city"
I'm origionally born and grew up in Hobart Tasmania and the environment is definately beautiful but I find the people here to be quite cold and unfriendly. About the same as Sydney Siders. I moved back to Hobart from Cairns last May 2017 and I'm ready to move back to Cairns. Although Australia is definately not my favorite country to live in I feel Queensland is the best State to live in here.
Used to be friendly and courteous. Until around 2017 when the culture started to change and not for the better. People from the mainland started moving in.
"Expensive to live"
I have lived in tasmania for most of my life. I've watched it transform from a cheep beautiful place to live to what it is now. The houses are expensive to both rent and buy poor quality for money and thats if you are able to obtain a property! Homelessness has increased dramatically with every one struggle not just low incomes. Ice has become a major thing jobs are hard to find and everyone pays minimum wage and i wont out its not a place id recomend or have my children growing up in its a dead end place with no future.
"I fell in love with Hobart and Tasmania"
Oh - my - goodness.... Forget San Franciso, I think I left my heart in Hobart ... It has everything - 'nuff said!

"To know it is to love it"
A few years ago, a family friend moved his young family to Hobart from Melbourne. He continued to maintain an office in Melbourne and commutes. I scratched my head... why?!
It wasn't until I have spent sometime in Hobart that I began to understand the attraction. Hobart is a beautiful place. A perfect balance of the old and the new, cafes and restaurants, art precincts and plenty of fresh produce. The distance from the mainland is a blessing in disguise
"Hobart....ahh what a jewel, a place that holds your heart fast"
....cradled between the steadfast Mount Wellington and the River Derwent. A place of many a yesterdays, reminiscent of quaintness of many a European destinations, its position is bellied by the everflowing river estuary and dotted with inlets and bays....a place to sail the seven seas in one day....heck don't let the sea take you away from the the verdant greeness that many a sailor looks forward to come home to....the valleys that hide the great stands of majestic Huon pines and manferns that dwarf the waterfalls that supply the rivulets so abundant in full flows after snow thaws....ahhh so much to say about a pocket of a place that remains static in its bewildering ways....array of lifestyles to be had and scenery changes within a few steps away from your doorstep...sure there isn't enough of LED screens, sure there are less amusement parlours for the kids they are now happily ensconced in their bedrooms playing PC games...with the entire globe at their fingertips...and no you won't miss abeat nowadays for sure as yesterday it took a month to get the mainland fridge!
Ahhh forget the rat race and the rats on the mainland cityscapes....get a real life and live! right here in Hobart. Become the spirit of community and believe in magic once more.
