Reviews of Karabar, NSW
"Brilliant Suburb"
Karabar is a great place to live. Here you will get so much more bang for your buck compared to Canberra, and the area is lovely. Only 20 minutes easy drive to Civic down Canberra Avenue. Good shopping in QBN, 10 mins to DFO. Schools in the area are good. Lots of Canberrans moving here over the past 5-10 years. Love this place

"Horrible"
Karabar is the bogan outskirts of the bogan town of Queanbeyan. It has a few amenities including a dog park where one of my friends dogs became sick from eating drugs left on the ground, and a small cluster of shops where you’ll find a lot of swearing children spend their time.
"Relax and quiet living"
Fantastic family friendly place to live. Loved the big and new houses sorrounded by nature and mountain reserves as well as Queanbeyan river.
We moved to Queanbean from Weston Creek 3 years ago. Couldn’t be more happy. Karabar is a big area. Overall, the newer part is better than average Canberra suburbs no wonder why house price and rents both are actually higher here. Cookes and Fairlane estates of Karabar are great. We liked the semi rural feeling, well built massive houses (newer part), views, reserves, and the nice neighbors again compared to average Canberra suburbs.
Public transport isn’t great however we didn’t use that in Canberra either.
Sadly moving to Sydney now.

"Suburb has a bad rep because of one especially 'interesting' area, but there are some lovely parts"
Karabar is like the curate's egg, good in parts. I'd definitely avoid the top part of Southbar Road (near Karabar shops) and some of the roads coming off it are very 'interesting' too, but most other parts are either average or totally great. My road (near the river, off Dane Street) is a peaceful, friendly oasis, with lovely residents (a mix of singles, retired couples, young and older families, and young couples), mostly professional and houseproud. Property is much better value than over the border in the ACT. Local primary schools are excellent - I can't speak for Karabar High School but my neighbour says it's good.
Great for
- Housing is good value compared with the ACT
- Convenient for the ACT
- Close to shops, schools, GP clinics etc (in Queanbeyan)
Not great for
- Southbar Road (down to the Scar at least) is scary
- Nothing much for younger people to do (but the ACT is easily accessible)
- Public transport stinks - buses are rare and very expensive, so you really need a car
