"Quiet suburb with inadequate public transport"
I lived here for six odd months while my family were moving house. It doesn't have a train station, nor does it have trams. The bus service is unreliable, but you really don't want to drive a car into the CBD, do you?

Have lived here 25yrs now and it has been great. Local schools are great, lots of sporting clubs, parks, families and friendly area. Only downside is public transport, However Keilor plains station is nearby so easy to get to the city.

"Great location lots of parks and lovely village lifestyle."
Lived here for 18yrs now and from the beginning I knew this was a place I wanted to raise a family. The schools here are excellent, though as their is only a public primary (no secondary) there is travel to other suburbs required for education. However the Anglican co-ed (prep to 12) is fantastic (if you like private education).

"Definately, one of the nicer suburbs on this side of town."
A good place for families with beautiful homes, streets, parks and schools.
The lack of good public transport is the major downside. The local goverment and residents are to blame for this for not approving the light rail extension (Tram 59) all those years ago. Instead it went to Airport West.
I think some of the older residents are out of touch from reality, by a number of them being against this decision. As we have seen and heard in the Media over the past few year, Brimbank Council is an utter shambles. Poorly managed organisation and I think this would be a major contributor to the lack of infrastructure in the suburb.
Some of the houses are mega mansions which appear unsustainable monstrosities which will have poor resale value.
One bus running its way around the suburb is unpredictable, unreliable and a long long journey.
If public transport was better, I would sell up and move here in a blink of an eye, and I can guarantee more people would!! If i was to ever move back, it wouldnt be in the style of the concrete block houses they keep building.

"Boring Suburb with not much for kids to do."
Am in my 40's now, but I grew up in Keilor. Parents been there close to 30 years. They probably would have moved, however the re-sale pricing in Keilor has not risen much (bar the last year or so), hence they did not see value as near retirees who would have to fork out more $ to live in pricier suburbs, so they have stayed. My parents moved our family there with the hope of upgrading to a 'better' suburb. I think it was a better suburb then, than it is now. As a teenager Keilor was boring... Nothing much to do. My generation would mill/walk around Keilor or catch a bus/train at Essendon into the city to hangout. In my 20's it was mostly based around the footy club/ Thursday nights at the pub (with uni/work in between). One of my siblings' generation, from what I am led to believe, cut out the walking and travel and just smoked dope & spent time boozing at the pub (who served underrage drinkers). Don't know if it was just a generational thing or the suburb... However I would not particularly recommend Keilor for people with kids. I just feel that there are better suburbs out there with better infrastructure for young children/teenagers. Calder Rise primary used to be a fantastic primary school... It closed in 2009, which was a shame. Keilor village is attractive and leafy. If I had to move back there, would probably chose that area over other pockets. Also Horseshoe Bend Rd/Riverside Ave area is ok too.

"The understated North Western suburb"
There are some older but grand homes in Keilor North. Keilor has been well known for many years and is very popular. Keilor North is a little bit further out but still very close to all facilities. It's a leafy and hilly area and still very close and easy access to the freeway leading to the airport and the city. It's a great family area with everything in close proximity.

"Great place to raise a family. Close to the city but with that country feel. Keilor Village a Gem."
Having resided in Keilor for 35 years and the last 25 in the Keilor Village area. I believe it is a hidden gem. Plenty of parks, schools, both Public and Private, modern sporting facilites and great access to the city via the freeway. The Village shops and restaurants offer a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
In recent times young families are embracing this area and giving the thumbs up to a great environment for family life.
Spend time in the township of the Keilor Village and you will soon realise why this is a place to enjoy.

Add a comment...I also have lived in keilor for over thirty years, yes public transport could be better, but I live in such a beautiful and safe community, in all these years, I've only ever meet wonderful people, my children had a great time playing outside with their friends, never an issue with safety. It's a beautiful place to live without being too far out, Get a tram in Niddrie and you can get anywhere you want all around Melbourne. Love it here.
No trains or trams is a selling point , public transport in Melbourne is not safe and brings crime , no thanks .
