Reviews of Killara, NSW
"Overpriced but decent with calm suburban lifestyle"
Being part of the Ku-ring-gai council, this is a particularly safe suburb located conveniently relative to the hotspots of the North Shore. It is in close propinquity of Macquarie Park, a bustling region of the North Shore. Top notch schools are not far away and while restaurants and shopping options are not varied, it is perfect for people wishing to get outside of the hustle of the Sydney CBD and embrace prime suburban life in Greater Sydney
"Bubble of self congratulation"
Boring, safe, conservative, leafy. The sort of place the neighbours start to gossip disapprovingly when you don't mow the lawn every week.
Killara is very uncool. It's just standard suburbia. A long way from the city and inner urban cool areas.
The types keen on Killara are elderly people and families keen to access the (free) good local public schools.
Local residents live in a bubble of delusion about the attractiveness of Killara. It's not 1970. Wealthy North Shore buyers shifted their focus to to areas closer to the CBD, like Mosman, Northbridge, Nth Sydney, etc
The property market has spoken. Since 1970 Killara property prices have fallen well behind the lower North Shore areas. They are in much greater demand as they are cooler, livelier and closer to the city.

"Why would you live anywhere else!"
Killara is in my opinion the best place to live in Sydney, it is safe, it is close to transport, Killara railway station (25 minutes to the city), fantastic schools in Killara PS, Beaumont Road PS and Killara High School, Chatswood is less than 5 minutes away so that covers shopping and the people in Killara are some of the nicest you can find in the city. There is no night life in Killara but as I said earlier, Chatswood is not far away at all. There is also great access to healthcare with the nearest hospital being Royal North Shore in Saint Leonards but Hornsby hospital is also nearby.
It is important to note that when I was looking for a unit to rent, on the door there was a paper stuck on saying "No Asians please". This however is very unlike the area and it was the only time I saw something like that.
Overall, it is a stunning jewel in Sydney's North Shore. The only downside I can see is that it is expensive so if you have the funds, I recommend this area. You won't regret it. :)

"Quiet, Leafy, Convenient."
The gentleman's suburb, Killara is full of period homes and green spaces. These homes are generally on large allotments to the east of the railroad (however some of these older homes exist between the railroad and Pacific Hwy. Considering a 20 minute hop over the bridge, it's incredibly well located and a retreat amongst the busy life of the city. A perfect place to call home for a growing family.

"Great schools + Great neighbours = Killara"
Close proximity to some of the best schools - Killara High, Ravenswood, Pymble Ladies College and Knox Grammar. Friendly neighbours and leafy surrounds. Killara to Wynyard takes only 30 minutes via train. Perfect place to raise your kids.

Elle Macpherson went to Kilara High but grew up in Lindfield - Grosvenor Road to be precise. We know her home well.
