Kingston has become incredibly overcrowded. The traffic is frustrating, the prices are bloated, and the charm it once had is long gone. It’s hard to enjoy the area when you’re stuck in congestion or fighting for a park at the shops.

Kingston is often marketed as a convenient and desirable suburb, but living here has become more stressful than it’s worth. The traffic is a daily hassle—especially during peak hours—with constant roadworks, long wait times, and packed carparks around the shopping precinct. It’s clear that infrastructure hasn’t kept up with rapid development.

Property prices have skyrocketed, and for what you pay, the lifestyle no longer matches. Parks and green spaces are crowded, schools are stretched, and there’s very little of the relaxed community feel that used to define the area. It feels more like an extension of Hobart’s congestion than a lifestyle destination.

In contrast, suburbs like Rokeby offer similar proximity to Hobart without the chaos. You still get the views, fresh air, and access to services—plus you avoid the traffic bottlenecks and inflated price tags. With plenty of open space, family-friendly parks, and a much calmer environment, Rokeby is quickly becoming a smart choice for those who want balance, privacy, and value.

Unless you need to be in Kingston for a very specific reason, I’d recommend looking elsewhere—especially if you value peace and room to breathe.

Beautifual nice streets there but hardly any services so its not ideal for familes and people there can be a bit rough. Its almost like bridgey but obvi nicer. Still wouldnt reccomend for familes but might be a good fixer if you werent living in it as the new homes being built change the soil and can cause your home to slip and cause structual issues

Kingston is located 12 kms south west of Hobart. It is one of the greatest growth areas in the whole of Tasmania. It is considered to be the gateway to the spectacular natural beauty of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel region. Even though there are plenty of employment opportunities in the area most people still enjoy working in Hobart but living in this tranquil setting. It has a large Dutch community which immigrated in the 1950's. It is a thriving community with two major shopping centres, a golf course, many schools, the Australian Antarctic Division Head Office and a large sporting centre. It is the perfect place for a family to enjoy the outdoors and plenty of sporting pursuits.

Safe, plenty of options for things to do and great for all walks of life :)
