Reviews of Lamb Island, QLD
"Brisbane's best kept secret"
As a busy professional, I am delighted to have purchased a block of land on Lamb island with a view to building a week-ender to get away from the craziness of inner city living during the week. The locals are incredibly helpful and friendly. Once on the ferry (a fully integrated transport system is in place simply requiring a GO CARD to get onto the ferry) one starts to immediately relax on the water to this little island paradise. As I disembark from the ferry and walk along Lucas street, I am overwhelmed by the bird life and stunning fauna and flora. The SMBI Little Bus Service is also on hand to drive you anywhere (although we walk as the island is only 2 km by 1 km). There is a little corner shop, local bistro, Lamb Island Horticultural Group, library, recreational group, new tennis court/ netball field, huge parklands, swings, swimming enclosure, BBQ facilities and public toilest, park overlooking North Stradbroke island, and many beautiful walks along the foreshore. The island also boasts a fabulous rural fire brigade, medivac helicopter service (if required ) and has a paramedic and ambulance on the island. I was amazed to learn that there is NBN on the island, fast connectivity, a daily mail service and Woolies even deliver to your door (although there is a SPAR on Macleay or an IGA on Russel island which are free inter-island short trips by ferry). The perfect place to experience nature, to be more 'still' and develop lasting friendships. All inter-island trips are free and we cycle on Lamb island and pop across to Karragarra island to cycle or take a swim on a different beach...Macleay island is so close as well for a good coffee, to visit the chemist/doctor and/or pub and restaurants - the bowls club even picks you up at the ferry for free on Friday and Saturday evenings if you want dinner overlooking the sea and Victoria Point. Many local artists and tradies on hand as well to support you to build and furnish a gorgeous getaway on the island xx

coast2 I have met delightful locals and shared positive experiences. To date, I have met many Lamb island locals who are all very friendly - I will not respond to your message any further as I suspect you may be a Troll
I suspect you may be a real estate agent trying to profit by writing a 'review'. You moved to a quiet secluded island three months ago during a pandemic and immediately want to announce it to the world from the rooftops with no consideration for other residents who might prefer the quiet lifestyle and privacy that you may have contributed to destroying if the place gets inundated thanks to your 'recommendation'. What a Tool.
I am not a real estate island. We had a fabulous week with our daughter on Lamb island last week during the school holidays - only time we had an issue with mozzies were early mornings (playing tennis) and sun set, hence enjoyed the island during the day mozzie free. Loving the people on the island and our new friends we are making - got some good lead way working on our block of land xx
Dear Coast2 your posts to Renees28 are very rude. I have met Renees28 and she is a lovely lady who has been most kind, as I have also purchased on Lamb Island for my family. She is not a real estate agent. We plan to be polite and friendly, like Renees28, and are happy that the people on Lamb Island that we have met are friendly as well.
My intention was not to be rude to Renee (she called me a troll after all); simply to challenge her apparent need to shout from the rooftops that she has found an island sanctuary during a pandemic. I'm glad you are both enjoying being treated in a friendly manner. You clearly haven't met the nasty abusive insular gossiping alcoholic locals I have encountered. Good for you! That's YOUR experience. This community is not all it seems. And it doesn't need promoting to the world - although an influx of nicer people might not be a bad idea after all.
Coast2 you are an idiot. There are countless blocks for sale so obviously the rest of us, mainly local professionals, would like to know if its worth our hard earned money being spent @there, or whether many of you are druggies like on Russell! You should be extremely grateful that most people reading this would only be looking to invest in weekenders, hence keeping your secret oasis. Grow a brain and perhaps move to Russell where it sounds like you migrated from yourself.
What? Many druggies on Russell? I'm looking at property there soon. Should I not....
I reckoned for a few months already my focus to acquire a land there before my retirement. What a turn off not fair for those decent ppl living in Russell island. Even Im thinking to check Lamb Island as Ive only heard it now sadly what a downer to read that unpleasant feedback. Like to hear positive feedback.
Lamb Island Qld is the only real Island of the group and its in my opinion the best
Do Woolies deliver to Lamb?
"Our paradise"
For flexible people. Most the old timers here can help with free advice on the best way to get things over here or do things. Little Bus service, now available on all 4 islands. Drivers very friendly and obliging, the service meets most ferries, $5 each way for each passenger or you can get one of their discount cards and will cost you $4 each way for each passenger. OR walk or bike ride, Lamb is only 2klm long x 1klm wide, a few little hills but lots of flat areas also. We love it

It certainly is a paradise, agreed. I love the views towards North Stradbroke island, beautiful
Update: unfortunately at this time, our Little Bus service is out of action. Our great driver left and the business is having trouble finding a replacement, truth be known, there may not be enough business for them on our island of 450+ people. So back to self driving, walking or biking, as no public transport on any of the 4 islands, including Lamb
Update again: Dec' 2023 - The rec club has put in place the Lamb Van which is partially subsidized, it now only costs $4 per trip. The drivers are all friendly and our old driver is back driving again. Much needed and appreciated service. Currently you can book a ride or ask them to meet a particular ferry arrival, on 0448466421. The hours that the service runs can be a bit limited though but they do their best.
"Quiet Island Community"
Very affordable, beautiful water views, lots of trees and bird life. Good for people who appreciate nature, fishing, boating, work from home or retired. Still very accessible to Brisbane and Gold Coast via fast ferry to Redland bay. As most areas near water/bush mozzies can be a pain in summer. If needing to commute parking on the mainland can be a hassle, council plans to redevelop parking/waterfront/ferry area at Redland bay should hopefully solve this.
NBN to be connected by early 2020.
Overall great little hidden gem

"Peaceful and natural yet close to everything"
Lamb Island is small and peaceful with about 400 residents. Safe enough to get around by bicycle and small enough to get from one end to the other. There is abundant bird life and it is surrounded by the waters of Moreton Bay, so great for kayaking, fishing, and sailing. Houses and land are affordable, and there are a variety of people who live here, retirees, organic gardeners, artists, nature lovers, and those who have online businesses and can work from home. Australia Post delivers parcels and letters daily and there is no delay. There is a regular barge for transporting cars and building materials etc. It’s a small community so you get to know the people who live on the island. The ferry services to Redland Bay are regular and are included in the Qld TransLink Go card system giving you cheaper fares. The ferry to Redland Bay is 20 mins and from there you can be in Brisbane City or the Gold Coast in 40 mins.
There is a small kiosk selling food essentials and takeaways and a Supa IGA on the neighbouring Russell Island which has a good selection and prices comparable to the mainland. The ferry between Lamb and Russell, Macleay and Karragarra Islands is free. Ideally suited to active people who want to escape the hustle and bustle.
Do you get paid for selling Lamb Island to the world, Renee, or just couldn't help yourself from breaching the privacy of residents who would prefer the island to retain its charm without being inundated by a major influx of migrants in these COVID times. Let's hope the ego boost you achieved by writing this was worth losing that.
