Reviews of Lutana, TAS
"Concerned Investor and Advocate"
As someone who has dedicated years to supporting sustainable and community-positive growth across Tasmania, I feel compelled to speak honestly about the suburb of Lutana. Despite its proximity to Hobart and the River Derwent, the ongoing environmental risks tied to the nearby Zinc Works make Lutana deeply problematic as a place to live, raise a family, or invest long-term.
The reality is this: heavy metal contamination, particularly from airborne emissions and soil toxicity, is not a historic problem — it is an ongoing issue. The Zinc Works, still fully operational, releases significant levels of cadmium, lead, and other pollutants into the surrounding environment. Multiple studies have shown elevated levels of these substances in Lutana’s soil and dust. This poses a direct threat to respiratory health, child development, and overall quality of life.
What’s more concerning is the entrenched housing in the area — much of it aged, poorly insulated, and not equipped to mitigate environmental exposure. Property values may appear stable, but the hidden health costs are severe, and in my opinion, outweigh any short-term gain. There's little evidence of substantial government or corporate efforts to rectify or rehabilitate the area in a meaningful way.
"Very BOGAN!"
Way too much crime, the Zinc Works right next door constantly poisoning you and the land around it. You can't make poison and a slow death appealing, especially at $600K, and I lived here for years unfortunately that I can't get that time back
"Quiet, central to everywhere, lovely views"
Lutana is a lovely subburb close to the city center, the Northgate Shopping center and the bridge. You have either mountain or water views almost anywhere in Lutana. Busses connect you to the rest of Hobart and shopping. Schools are nearby within easy and safe walk for you kids. Plenty of street parking and the car takes you to town in just 8 minutes.

"So Close to everything"
Lutana is right in the middle of everywhere. Only a matter of minutes to the city, five minutes to Northgate shopping and fifteen minutes from the airport. It has local stores a hotel with bottleshop and a number of parks and playgrounds all with walking distance. All in all a great and quiet place to live.

"Quiet with water views and so close to the city."
I have lived in Lutana for over 12 years. Central to everything with fantastic water and mountain views.More reasonably priced than some inner suburbs A quiet area with mostly older residents and a few singles and families. I have always felt safe living in Lutana and would reccomend this suburb to live to most people.

"Quiet, trendy and so close to the city"
Lutana is a lovely and quiet suburb with a friendly community. You are in the city and on the the bridge so quickly without getting stuck on any roads or intersections with long waits at traffic lights. Lutana used to be one of Hobart's best kept secrets. Not suprisingly, it has become very popular in the last couple of years as. Lutana boasts beautifully renovated period homes and lush gardens.

"An affordable suburb close to the city"
We have lived in Lutana for nearly 4 years. It is a nice friendly and safe neighbourhood. We have two dogs and like the areas that we can exercise them.
It is ideally located close to the city and northern suburbs. Public Transport it good during the day but no so regular on Sundays and at night.
We have gorgeous mountain and water views from our house. Our neighbours are mostly older couples but there seems to be more young families moving to the area. We don't have children yet so we don't know much about the schools or daycare.

"A nice little suburb"
I would have to say that Lutana in my experience is a quiet enjoyable place to live. There is a large proportion of elderly retirees and young families in the area. I feel safe and comfortable and my children play in the street with other children. Its cheap, very close to the city and moonah for shopping. And the view of the sunsetting behind the mountain is wonderful. A good little suburb all round.
