Located 940 km north of Perth, Carnarvon is well known for its bananas, seafood and tropical fruits and has a very warm tropical climate and so is also prone to cyclones during the summer season. Carnarvon has good medical facilities with a medical centre and well appointed hospital. There are pre primary, primary and secondary schools both state and catholic, a TAFE college and is serviced by School of the Air. The town has an airport and good roads. Supermarkets, specialty and boutique stores are plentiful with everything you could need at your finger tips. There are numerous sporting venues with a recreations centre, oval, playing fields and courts a swimming pool and skate park and has many clubs and associations to join. The apart from horticulture the town is also known for salt and gypsum mining at Lake McLeod some 65 km north of the town. The Fishing Industry is also alive and well at Carnarvon.
