"Parks & hoons, hope you like driving!"
I admit it was a bit counter intuitive of me to buy here seeing as though my career only has work in/around Melbourne CBD. I eventually had to move out because it took me up to 1.5 hours to get to work every day.
The good:
I lived around Berwick Springs, which is actually a beautiful, safe and leafy suburb with a really nice central lake. It was great for jogging, riding and family days. From here the beach suburbs are surprisingly accessible. The schools and facilities here are also really good. Langmore Lane clinic is full of very competent doctors.
The bad:
The north-south arterial roads get very banked up at peak times. Narre South is flood prone. Our area only had ADSL 1 the whole time, which was confusing and frustrating. Greaves Rd is another racetrack, our days were punctuated with revving engines and skidding tyres (especially in the early hours of the morning). It's also far away from other Melbourne suburbs. It's hard to really go anywhere because of the long drive that separates you from the city. There's also a bad case of bored teenagers that cause trouble at night.

"it's a racetrack!"
I live in the Strawberry fields estate, we are off Ormond Rd and our street must be a 1/4 mile between two roundabouts as every second car that goes down our street (not a main street really either I might add) sounds like they are trying to break some kinda record, turbos, blow-off valves, and just general loud waffly exhausts at all hours of the morning cruising around. the neighbours have never spoken a word to us in the 11 months we have been here and MANY, MANY dogs barking. Not so much at night but during the day and afternoon. It's generally peaceful at night accept for the cars.
With a choice of Over priced coles at casey central or very overpriced IGA @ amberly park shopping centre, shopping is often done either at cranbourne safeway or fountain gate safeway. Depends how fussy you are on your shops I guess. I think the rentals, while nice are a little expensive, our house has a lot of great features, but unfortunately the small things let it down, lighting etc. We feel safe walking at night as there isnt any roving gangs that we have ever seen, the occasional busted Bus stop (what suburb doesnt though) (why dont they make them out of something else??) and cant say I really ever see any grafitti.

Hey i live in this area too and do have friends living off ormond rd. I understand what you mean by the blow off valves and loud cars. Neighbours tend to keep to themselves because more and more multi cultural people are starting to migrate. I can only honestly say that they probably dont mean you harm. If you are planning on moving, please let me know, i am a local agent located at casey central!
What do you mean by this statement:
"Neighbours tend to keep to themselves because more and more multi cultural people are starting to migrate."
Our friendliest neighbours are immigrants - Italian and asian.
If you want friendly neighbours you have to make an effort.
yeah you do get friendly neighbours, dont get me wrong, its not a matter of race that determines whether a person is friendly or not. All I'm saying is that you do get the occasion family where they are unable to communicate at full capacity and tend to keep to themselves and community. My next door neighbours and my family talk almost every day but then the house on the other side of us never spoke to us and they are of Afghanistan background.
I think in today's society there are many people who live busy lives. I live in NWS and with the hours i work i don't tend to spend as much time with all my neighbours. However, i know who my neighbours are (not only in my street but around the block) and am able to say a friendly hello and wave when i'm out or even at the Casey shops. I think one main problem with today's society is that no-one wants to "make the first move" it's like being at a 12y.o dance! People are too afraid of being culturally inappropriate or not having anything in common.. and then there's others like me.. who barely have time to catch up with current friends and maybe don't want to make new ones.. but it's not hard to say hello... once you break that barrier i find those living in Narre Warren South are normal just like those in any other suburb... as for all the hoons, i guess that's what you get for living on main road... it's the same as in any other suburb... i don't think we're any different...
Main road? No. Seebeck Drive, Ormond Rd, and Baringa Park Dr, get (very long) fresh black tyre marks nearly every weekend.
Disagree about the roads. Narre Warren - Cranbourne Rd is a carpark between Centre Rd through to Casey Central every day after about 4pm - it should be 4 lanes, but there's no plan to upgrade it.
And Pound Rd is getting more and more traffic every day, speed limit was lowered to 70, and medical centre opening soon to add even more traffic.
So it's a very slow commute if you have to use either of both of those roads.
Any public transport options?
Do you live in the area? Do you work near by or in the city? Do you have kids that have to go to school or kindy? What's the traffic like? Lots of people are saying that the traffic out there is woeful.
