Reviews of One Mile, QLD
"PUTRID RATS NEST"
Leichhardt is the skidmark on the underpants of ipswich. It is a putrid ghetto that is full of junkies, thieves, arsonists and scabbing houso losers
"Room to breathe"
In the five years I’ve lived in One Mile, it has consistently delivered a lifestyle that’s hard to match. It’s this unique mix of leafiness and community spirit, with parks that serve as the lungs of our suburb, drawing families and friends outdoors for some sunshine and camaraderie.
The houses here are more than structures; they’re well-crafted homes with ample space for a bit of everything—gardens, play areas, or just room to enjoy a quiet afternoon. It’s the kind of place where neighbors share more than just a wave, creating a friendly atmosphere that’s genuine and comforting.
And for families, the educational opportunities are a standout. We’re in close reach of some of Queensland’s top schools in Central Ipswich, and right here in One Mile, we’ve got access to excellent childcare and a reputable private Catholic primary school.
This suburb is a rarity—a peaceful, community-focused enclave that’s still within arm’s reach of essential amenities.
One Mile feels like home now. A village nestled in a meander of the Bremer river (most of One Mile does not flood but do check the flood maps of course before you buy). With new construction fraught with problems, risk and expense, it makes so much sense to buy an established home.
The only demographic One Mile is not geared toward would be young singles - there is zero nightlife in the area and repetitive noise (frequent partying) would be frowned upon (by me at least!). We don’t see it around here. It’s more for families and older folks who like a peaceful life.

"Rural feel with city access"
We bought a house sight unseen in One Mile last year having never even heard of the suburb! Hubby is a FIFO worker so we wanted something within an hour of the airport & due to border closures we couldn't view in person. A search for affordable properties gave a number of results in Ipswich and we scheduled video viewings. We chose the house in One Mile because it has a rural aspect while still being close to the city. We're so happy we bought here! Parks everywhere, great for walking the dog.

"Great place to live"
We’ve lived here for several years. We are professionals and the number of owner occupiers has steadily grown. Not surprising, as the location, trees, birds, and big yards that attracted us are also attracting others. Prices are really affordable and we figured why rent when we could buy. We don’t have to live on a tiny block in basically a ghetto (like you’ll find at Ripley, Rosewood, and Lowood new estates) with neighbours in our armpits. We aren’t sweltering in a heat sink of concrete and steel. We’re so close to everything but at the same time it feels kind of rural. There are some gorgeous old houses which would give Graceville a run for its money. The river and bridges, massive parks, sporting fields, Ipswich Showgrounds, University, and nearby bmx track, are great for the kids. The water play (which has a full time lifeguard!) on the river and Queens Park are both five minutes away. Great roads give easy access to the highways east and west. Two minutes from the City, five minutes from the Junior Grammar school, Riverlink, and Yamanto for shopping. A lovely little private primary school is nestled right in the heart of One Mile too. This suburb is far more liveable than anywhere else for these prices. Neighbours are super friendly and although people complain of low socec folks and crime throughout Ipswich, I’ve never had a single issue in the four years we’ve been here. With owner occupiers growing too, the rentals are reducing - by around 12% in a couple of years! If you’re looking for an affordable home in a great location this is it. Just please don’t buy a house and cut the trees down - you will need them for shade and the trees and cool afternoons go and in hand. The planet will thank you. Everywhere else seems to be turning into a concrete jungle. Would hate to see that happen here.

"Ahhh The Serinity"
We have lived here for twenty two years and love the country feel the peace and quite. Everyone is friendly and pleasant. We raised our children here and we think the older style homes and big blocks give it the country town feel. Great for people who want a veggie garden, some fruit trees and a couple of chooks. A much underrated suburb.

"Improving all the time"
Area is improving all the time. Seems like the trouble makers are leaving and with the return of the RAAF staff to Amberley good investor opportunities. One Mile has been my home for 3 years with only one small incident. I walk my dogs at night, no problems. Lots of parks, close to west Ipswich shopping, CBD, tennis courts, football ovals, catholic schools and daycare. Quick access to Cunningham and Warrego Hwy. Cafe culture is great in the CBD and super affordable buying.

"ugly Ipswich suburb inhabited by the hairy unwashed"
Lived here from 2008 -2011 and then rented out our house from 2011 - 2017. Would not recommend living here. On a weekly basis there were fights in the streets, people chasing people with metal bars abusing each other. Junk left in front yards and on the footpaths and the council do nothing. There is very little pride taken in property. Renting and selling our house was a nightmare as well. Tenants were terrible and intentionally motor oil over new carpet and did not pay rent for months. 0/10. Stay away if you have any pride in yourself and your family.
"Ipswich: Do not move there"
I lived in Ipswich for four years, Sadlier's Crossing, Boovall and One Mile. If you like finding used syringes 50 metres from your front gate, neighbours fighting in the street and attacking each other with bats, being stuck between two neighbours that feud, so they throw empty bottles across your yard at each other, blow themselves up (yes, blow themselves up with petrol), wreck shared fences, collect junk and broken down cars, so that snakes and rodents live under the wrecked bonnets, etc, high crime, hooning in the streets, then by all means move to this town that is nothing more than a centre for Brisbane City rejects.
If you like golf ball bombs being found in the local parks, by all means move to this hole.
If you like your council to leave the CBD and suburbs decay to state, that they are an absolute disgrace, then by all means move to this hell hole.
In closing I wouldn't raise a mongrel dog in Ipswich, let alone a family.

This has not been my experience and I live here now. Places change. Sounds like One Mile has changed since you were there.
"One Mile is close to everything but people try to know your buisnes"
I have lived in One Mile for 7 years while the area is close to CBD the neighbourhood spirit could be better. Can't let kids play out in backyard without neighbour saying why are you playing out here. Can't talk to one lot of neighbours without another lot getting jealous. Get falsely accused by an unmedicated neighbour who constantly give insults when hubby is minding his own buisness. A lot of cats have been going missing from the area it appears that thier is a cat hater in the area as the cats just vanish don't even end up in the pound. Drug use is pretty common in the area if you don't do drugs you stand out . There are some friendly people around but unfortunatly it varies from street to street Fair street is one of the most unfriendly places I've lived at. The next street over is pretty quiet and was mostly ok. I would recommend One Mile for singles or retirees.

Im sorry you had that experience. I live in what was considered the worst street in One Mile. Everything I heard and had read and, frankly, feared did not come to pass. We installed security cameras etc and have never had an intruder of any kind on our property and have seen no disturbances to speak of in the five years Ive lived here. Our house prices have doubled and yet so remain comparatively affordable so its hardly good advice not to buy these days. Things change.
