"New look a lot of investment"

I have been living for 2 years now, ando now Phillip has come a long way with fresh parks, local shops, and better public spaces and a new train station around the corner. It’s clean, friendly, and has a real community feel. The upgrades have made it a great place to live, with everything you need close by. Perfect for anyone who enjoys a relaxed, easy lifestyle.

"Try somewhere else"

Phillip seems to be a centralised town of housing commissions. The only thing going for the suburb is that it is very close to the Woden hospital. If you work in the hospital look on the other side of the hospital away from Phillip.

"Revitalising area"

I have lived in Phillip for a couple of stints. It has always been very convenient with the hospital, shopping centre and workplaces close by. It is quite affordable and multicultural. This time around, I have really noticed an increase in amenities like cafes, yoga and fitness centres, the farmers market. The newer apartments seem to be bringing younger people to the area and it has a nice, buzzy feel.

"Housing Commission Central"

I had the unfortunate experience of living in Phillip for more than 2 years. It was all I could afford at the time. The suburb is littered with housing commission types. Being a low socio economic area, you get all sorts of dodgy characters around.
The local bus interchange is a place to avoid at night.

Great for

  • Hospital
  • Central bus hub
  • Decent sized shopping centre

Not great for

  • Crime

"The Suburb that Has It All"

Phillip is located 9 kms south south west of Canberra. It is predominantly apartment accommodation. Everything is close by and the atmoshere of the place is great. It is heart of Woden. It is the place in the district where everthing is based. It has the talest office building in Canberra, the Lovett Tower, as well as a separate commercial district. The Westfield shopping centre in Woden provides most of the shopping and entertainment options in the area. The Southside campus of the Canberra Institute of Technology provides study options. Sporting options are many and varied with many playing fields as well as the Phillip Swimming and Ice Skating Centre. The residential development at Swinger Hill is considered to be architecturally important and as such it was given heritage listing. It has all that anyone in any phase of life would want.

Great for

  • Great shopping
  • Great entertainment options
  • Great parks and gardens

Not great for

  • Crime
