Reviews of Port Broughton, SA
"Country town on the coast of the Spencer Gulf"
Port Broughton used to, and I think still does have the longest jetty in South Australia. It is now more a recreational fishing jetty, with a few Commercial Fisherman still calling Port Broughton home. Their main catch is scalefish and Blue Swimmer Crabs

Living in Port Broughton was a terrible decision. Port Broughton is in the middle of swamp areas, it is full of mosquitoes, flies and midgies. I could not go outside or bare any skin because I got bitten all over and came up in huge itchy welts. Nothing deterred or stopped them. I even got bitten through my clothes. They must have titanium jaws. The midgies would get inside so I was even attacked on every part of my body inside and when sleeping. I could not open windows or doors, which made hot days extremely difficult. You can't see them to know they are there, until too late when the itching starts. I've lived all over Aust. and never experienced anything like these attacks. They seem to be unique species to this area. The flies are also intolerable, sticking to you like glue. The beach is rocky and stinky, definitely not a pretty beach to sit, walk or swim at. The rotten swampy, polluted stench comes into the house when windows and doors are open so it was not pleasant to have them open even minus parasitic insects. The weather is terrible (extremes of everything). Very stormy in winter, and very hot and dry in summer, always with strong afternoon winds 12 pm to 6 pm. The closest shops (proper shops and services) are a two hour drive. It's in the middle of nowhere. I absolutely hated the place and glad to be free. I was just a piece of meat for all the blood suckers around the area. It was absolute torture. Terrible environment.
