Reviews of Wantirna South, VIC
"I love this suburb"
I've grown up in Wantirna South and have lived here for over 30 years. I live in the 2nd most expensive street, Gateshead Drive which is directly opposite Knox City Shopping Centre. I love that it is very safe and it's never on the news ! I have everything at my doorstep including three buses 737, 901 and 664. It is becoming very expensive as the median house price is over 1 million. I highly recommend Wantirna South to anyone. I wouldn't live anywhere else.
"A great suburb.... where I grew up!"
Wantirna South feels like home. I lived there with my family for 25 years, having only recently moved out. I have always felt safe walking the block & we have had great neighbors. Lovely little parks and very close to Jells Park which has a nice cafe and farmers market. Easy access to Eastlink at High Street Road. Quick drive to Knox City, Eastland or The Glen. Pretty drive to Sassafrass and Olinda for brunch & not far to the 1000 Steps. Great fresh food grocers on High Street Road (look for the big watermelon). Only downside is limited public transport & could do with a few more atmospheric cafes. Big Bean at Wantirna Mall's quite good & The Keystone Restaurant on the new Harcrest estate is a nice place for dinner if you didn't want to head into the inner city suburbs or up to Knox Ozone.

"Great Place to Live!"
I've lived here for 2 years and it was a great decision. Quiet streets, friendly neighbours, great Parks and open space. This suburb is under going rapid change with all the scummy bogans moving out as it's now too expensive. Great schools and Knox shopping centre expanding. This will be a blue chip suburb in 5 years. Close to city, beaches aren't far, Mt Dandy a short drive. This will be a millionaire suburb.

It all depends what is your dream for your children. It scientifically proven that dogs and chickend doesn't help with academic development. But, if you kind of village people are looking to have some kind of little farmers in the future, than why not...
@TrueM, could you please elaborate on your comment as what you found negative about this school.
Grow up True M.
At least proven that animals help in mental and physical development.
But looks like with a negative urban thinking like this u cant even help kids in mental or physical development,, Academically is far from you.
God bless yo kids
"Fantastic Suburb"
I travel to Wantirna South on a weekly basis for shopping. It seems like a nice safe suburb with an outstanding knox school. I just hope the 75 tram line can get extended to Wantirna South so I don't need to take my car to Westfield all the time...

"Excellent schools, great facilities, clean, green and close to everything"
We live near Renou Road and it's terrific, the streets are wide and well maintained, the neighbours help each other and are friendly. It's a great suburb to bring up children, as the schools and kinders are excellent, there are fantastic shops and restaurants and great facilities like AMF bowling and Village Cinema in Knox City, it's easy to get to the seaside straight down Eastlink, a handy hour and a half for the mountains for snow in winter, and an easy 25 min drive into the city, which only takes us 25 minutes off peak. The walks, cycle paths, playgrounds and reserves are clean and there are lots of them, which means we have plenty of wildlife visiting us!

- Quiet and friendly
- Clean and green
Not great for
- Heavy traffic noise on Highways
- Parking in Knox City just before Christmas!

You're right big difference between Wantirna and Wantirna South. Wantirna South is safer and more affluent. I live with my family on millionaire mile Gateshead Drive we are very lucky.
Cannot believe people are discussing Wantirna South using words like "millionaire mile"
When we lived there in the 90's it was cheap as and not considered a particularly good area. Was interesting to go back recently and found it was swarming with Asians and many Asian type shops had overtaken the old ones. Has a very different feel now, not as nice as before
Not sure what Wantirna South you are talking about???
The Wantirna South that I live in has zero industry!
I've lived here for over 30 years nothing industrial about Wantirna South you must be mistaken perhaps thinking about Scoresby or Bayswater.

"An access all areas neighbourhood"
We lived in Joseph Court off Sommes street. The new freeway makes it very easy to access all parts of Melbourne now without going through suburbs to get to the freeway.
From our area of Wantirna South it is easy commute to Knox, there are 2 private schools and 3 public schools in walking distance. Public transport stops are within walking distance, so too stops for buses to the private schools further away. The wednesday and sunday markets at Carribean Gardens is also a bonus. There are play areas as well as open spaces/sporting grounds for the kids to run free in. Safety is almost never an issue in our area as the courts and small number of houses in the street makes it almost impossible to come and go without being seen by someone at home. This makes it easy to allow the smaller children the freedom of playing in the street that most older people enjoyed when they were young. Lost traffic is the only problem with the odd person taking the wrong turn and ending up lost in the maze of dead ends and courts. Overall Wantirna South is a great suburb of Melbourne, as with most of the eastern suburbs it is very green and clean. With almost all in our area taking pride in their homes. The cultural mix is interesting and as most are professionals with children this adds to the friendly neighbour vibe you get when you drive through or visit.

"We're home!!"
Having just moved into the area 6mths ago I quickly realised what a great spot we're in!! Wantirna South has everything you'd want in a community, with none of the bad bits. All around people are friendly and neighbours are there to help. Shops are close and corner stores dotted everywhere, and its safe enough for the kids to walk or ride to their friends houses!!
I love the joint!!

Strangely after much investigation we found Wantirna South Primary School to be the best in the area. Great staff, great Principal and a fantastic group of children there. What's not to like of school that has the own dog (a Labradoodle) that makes its way round vistiting classes during the day and it's own brood of chickens that the children care for. Could not fault it academically either.
To each his own....
