Reviews of Wedderburn, VIC

"Quiet, friendly town with potential"

Wide streets, sporting and education facilities are key elements of our town. There is always something going on, whether it be a sporting event like football, netball, golf, bowls or darts, a function at the school, a play by the local drama group, a fund raiser for a church or one of our major events like the gold jamboree or machinery days.

Wedderburn College offers prep to 12 schooling and there are plenty of sporting activities for children of all ages. We have a safe, caring environment both in school and out.

The local Neighbourhood House has a drop in centre, craft groups, a family history group, and a selection of hobby courses. It also houses many visiting health specialists, a Centrelink agency, tourism office and much more.

There is a local doctor and a Community Emergency Response Team made up of fully trained local volunteers, to attend emergencies while waiting for the ambulance to arrive from 30 klms away.

We have a Foodworks supermarket, hardware store, butcher, post office and tattslotto, newsagency and chemist as well as gift and variety shops, ANZ and Bendigo banks, visiting library van and much more.

There are bus services to Bendigo (link to Melbourne) and Mildura, as well as B line to surrounding towns.

Housing prices are much lower than those in larger centres.

There is still gold to be found in the hills around Wedderburn and nuggets from a few grams to a few kilograms are being uncovered by prospectors on a weekly basis.

The town is approx 45 mins drive from Bendigo and many commute there to work, some who have moved here from Melbourne say it is a quicker and more pleasant drive to work than when they lived and worked in the city.

Although Wedderburn is on the Calder Hwy between Bendigo and Mildura, the traffic is not heavy and there are many opportunities for enterprising entrepreneurs.

So what are you waiting for?
