Sandwiched between the fun suburbs of Prahran and St Kilda but with a residential feel without the high rises. The restaurants at the Windsor end of Chapel Street are some of the best in Melbourne. Walking distance to Albert Park Lake, Alma Park and Victoria Gardens. The CBD and Richmond station for the MCG are 3/4 stops away on the train, or Brighton and Sandringham are the other direction for access to the beach, so very little reason to own a car in this village like neighbourhood.

With cool cafes, bar and fun nightlife, Windsor is a southside version of what you can expect from a suburb like Fitzroy. It's close to everything, but even though it's only 5km from the city, the Sandringham line from Windsor can prove difficult for those trying to get to Southern Cross or South Melbourne. Homes in Windsor include classic Victorian and Edwardian, single and double fronted, as well as hidden warehouse treasures such as the famous knitting mills. It's great for young professionals.

Windsor is a small suburb of mostly residential streets, divided by chapel st. The Windsor end of chapel is by far the best. It has a local feel, but with many small bars and restaurants, most of which aren't expensive. The good clothes shops are generally up in South Yarra.
There are a mix of apartments and houses, but mostly apartment blocks are small. Everyone is friendly and I feel safe walking around at any time.
Easy access to the city or outer eastern/southern suburbs.
This beats South Yarra, Prahran and St Kilda hands down if you are looking at staying long term.

Windsor is located at the southern end of Chapel street, walking distance to an abundance of restaurants, cafes, pubs, retail stores, cinema etc. Also walking distance to Fitzroy St. St Kilda, the beach, Albert Park lake and an easy bike ride to the city or along the foreshore.

There are many transport options available with Windsor train station located on Chapel St. The train to the CBD is very frequent and a short ride. The Sandringham line is the safest in Melbourne. Numerous trams run along St Kilda Rd. or a cab fare is around $18. You really dont need your car if you live around here, everything you need is walking distance away. I have walked night, day around the area and have had no problems with safety. Many people like to walk their dogs in the evening and the council is spending lots of money upgrading all the parks and playgrounds. For example, Council is spending $60m to build a park/plaza in Cato Street.

The area is great, the people are nice and I find that Windsor is laid back has a cool vibe.

Great inner city suburb offering the best of everything; shopping, nightlife, cafes, restaurants, schools, universities, child care, public transport.. and the list goes on. The streets are clean and the houses and apartments are well maintained making windsor a beautiful area to live and raise a family.
