What are the schools like in Toowoomba and is it difficult to get places mid term?

We are hoping to be moving to Toowoomba very soon from the UK with our 14 year old son. We really want to get him into a good school as it is an important time in his education. We would really like some advice from people who know the schools, the town and the outcomes of the education the children/young people receive. Many thanks
