"Great Place for the Family"
New Town is located 4 kms north north west of Hobart. The federation houses make an attractive streetscape. When Hobart was resettled in the early 1800's, it was the place where the first free settlers landed. New Town has its own local primary school. It is also the only place in Tasmania to have two public single sex high schools. There is also a Catholic school. It has beautiful tree-lined streets with equally beautiful houses. The styles of the large houses vary between Art Deco, Georgian, Italianate, Colonial and Federation. It has alot of great parks and the InterCity Cycleway traverses the suburb enroute to the city. There is a major shopping centre local to the area, which meets all of the needs of the residents. So there is little need to travel too far from home. It is the perfect place to raise a family.

"Little Holland"
Longley is located about 15 kms south west of Hobart. It is surrounded by mountains making it a very scenic area. People enjoy working in Hobart and living in this tranquil setting. It is one of the suburban estates that have developed around the sattelite area of Kingston. The area has a significant Dutch community as many moved here after the war around 1950. There are few local amenities as it is only a short trip into Kingston, which is the commercial hub of the area.

"Sea Change Escape on the Doorstep of the City"
Montrose is located 8 kms north west of Hobart. It is also in Montrose where the Montrose Foreshore Community Park is located. It has a playground which is popular with all the children in the area. There is a trail which runs from there to the Derwent Entertainment Centre. There is a small local shopping centre in Montrose which includes a vet, chemist, petrol station and convenience store. The town also boasts its own yacht club. It is a family friendly area although crime is a problem.

"Life on the River"
Otago is located on the Derwent River 10 kms to the north west of Hobart. It is an idyllic setting for a weekend break. It is close enough to the city for easy commuting. Being on the river it provides the tranquil lifestyle which only waterfront living can. It is the perfect place to raise a family.

"Changing Reputation"
Rokeby has been attempting to change its reputation over the past couple of decades. The increase in private home ownership has been assisting in reversing its downward trend. Its development of the skate park and the international skateboard competition has sought to give youths another outlet other than crime. The jury is still out though as to whether this community can be turned around.

Tea Tree is a small locality within the Brighton area. It is on the outer limits of the suburban area of Hobart. It has a significant amount of young families in the area due to the affordability of housing. It is a great place for those looking to experience country living or those opting for a tree change, while not being beyond reach of the ammenties found in the city and inner suburbs.
