"A peaceful suburb in a good location"
I have lived in this area for the last 5 years and for about 2 years many years ago…
I would say Springvale South is a mostly peaceful and quite area. This area has a lot more nicer and newer houses than in Springvale, so I think it looks better.
The population is made up of a high number of people with Asian (mainly Vietnamese) and Greek backgrounds, but I’ve noticed it’s starting to be more mixed, since the property prices seem more affordable compared to other areas.
There are a several parks/reserves, 2 small shopping areas/malls with supermarkets, restaurants, post office etc. One is located on Heatherton Road and the other is on Athol Road.
There seems to be a good community/neighbourly spirit at least on the west side of Springvale Road from my experience. I feel we look out for each other, especially if you live in a court. This area feels safe most of the time.
The City of Dandenong council is very quick to respond to any issues e.g. fallen trees/branches, rubbish dumping. Another great thing is that the rates are fairly low compared to other council areas.
I think this location in the southeast is very central and a great base, since it's only a short drive to the following places:
*15-17mins drive to Mentone beach or Chelsea beach.
*3-5 mins to Springvale main shops, 10 mins Parkmore Shopping Centre, 10 mins Brandon Park Shopping Centre, 20 mins to The Glen S.C and 20 mins Southland S.C.
*7-10 mins to DFO/ Moorabbin Airport.
*5-7 mins to Bunnings and Officeworks in Keysborough and 10 mins Bunnings in Springvale.
*5 mins to new Hawthorn Football Training Centre, Dingley (opening soon).
*35 mins (average) train to Southern Cross and 35-40 mins by car to city (non-peak hours).
*35-40mins to Mornington on Freeway (M11)
Also, in next few years there will be SurfNPlay in Dingley, which will be southern hemisphere’s largest water park. The build will be commencing within the next year and will be about a 5-7 mins drive to the facility.
Overall, I think it’s a pretty good place to live :)
