I moved to West End six months ago and while close to the CBD for work (the main reason I moved here), the level of construction and noise is driving me crazy.

Next to my unit alone there are three construction sites - each building a set of townhouses or units. They start at 6.30am in the morning till 6pm at night 6 days a week, even on a Sunday sometimes when they are not allowed. The Brisbane City Council are gutless and powerless to do anything about it, let alone enforce their own rules. I know of at least three other development applications within 100 metres made in the last 4 months, so noise and disruption is only going to get worse.

I find the neighbours very inconsiderate with loud conversations, tv's and parties at all times of the day and night. Most of the residents are transient and don't care what impact they are having on others around them.

The Council Nazis have installed paid meter parking in most of West End recently and any objections fall on deaf ears. I wrote to council against the installation of the meters but I never received a reply. As a result I do not shop locally and prefer a supermarket/mall where I can park for free.

While public transport is fairly good and comes often, the city buses still take close to half an hour by the time they drop you off. I counted 13 traffic lights in a 1km stretch which is just woeful. The BCC is obviously not serious about promoting public transport when I can drive with my partner to work in 10 mins and the cost works out cheaper too.

In the end you have to ask yourself whether your sanity is worth the convenience of being located so close to the city. For me space and privacy are much more important than arriving to work a few minutes quicker.
