Bentleigh East

"I still call East Bentleigh Home"

I grew up in East Bentleigh and it was full of war veterans
Its was interesting to say the least
Now there are lots of professionals and young families
I revisited it earlier this year and things certainly have changed.

We have lived in the flowers estate for 10 years and its a peaceful area with nice neighbors. The shopping is OK but the restaurants are almost nonexistent
We now go to Edmondson Square for a night out

Holsworthy

"Opportunity lost"

The worst aspect of Holsworthy is bogan neighbours who think nothing of partying until 4am in the morning despite being middle aged. They tend to be very nosy and extremely rascist and have little toleration for neighbours not born in Australia.

The majority of houses are ex defence fibro saunas and are unbearable in summer even with air-conditioning. They were considered unsuitable for defence personnel and their families and were marketed by Delfin at the same time that the neighbouring suburb of Wattle Grove was established.

Proximity to the M5/M7 is excellent and their is an express train service to the city with ample commuter parking at the Station. Eating out in Holsworthy is not an option and you do need to travel out of the area for restaurants. There are many parks in the area but unfortunately Liverpool Council does not believe in maintaining the communities assets. Graffiti is also a problem although this does appear to have improved slightly.

It is a shame about the negative aspects because there is a lot of potential in this suburb. The majority of people are house proud and tend to lavish money on their homes. Tradies seem to be the majority and are not aspirational about education. Holsworthy High has a very poor reputation and is ranked approximately 560 in the state with its average results.

Think very carefully about buying in this area as the values have dropped considerably.

Great for

  • Close to Station

Not great for

  • Has had some Grafiti problems in the past
  • You have to pay a toll on the M5 to take the Holsowrthy Exit from the city
