Lived near and in Richmond for 5 years.

The goods:
Tons of parks, quality cafes, pubs, restaurants, nightlife is great, public transport plentiful. Everything is in walking distance incl MCG & CBD.

Cons:
Yes there is public housing, and yes there are druggies that hang around Lennox, Church, Highett streets. As long as you don’t leave visible valuables in your car you’ll be fine- they’re mostly harmless and if you ignore them you won’t have an issue.

We loved the Richmond lifestyle!

We lived in east Melbourne for 4 years and hands down is the best suburb you could be in Melbs. You’re surrounded by beautiful old heritage houses, wide tree lines streets and parks galore. Plenty of places to get coffee and a bite to eat, but the best part of East Melbourne is what is doesn’t have. Fancy a good eat? Richmond and Collingwood are just next door. Big night on the piss? Fitzroy is a $10 Uber ride away. You’re in the quietest part of the inner city but surrounded by everything else.
