What are some good places in California for aspiring actors?

I'm an aspiring male actor and I'm single. I'm looking to move to California. What are some good places to live in California for people like me? Also, please keep replies limited to where to live. I don't want to see replies such as, "you'll never make it as an actor" or anything similar. You don't know if I will or won't. Also, don't reply with "it is hard to become an actor". I know this and I'm willing to work hard to become one. The criteria I want you to use is: Cost of living, attractions and things to do (can include nightlife), taxes, weather, cost of apartments/condos (I won't be looking to buy a house), and number of singles. Oh, and I'm in my 20's.

I'd also recommend Long Beach- 7th street has lots of smaller work-your-way-up type venues for theater, small films, etc. It is a little easier to find auditions without an agent in Long Beach. As for cost of living, it's all going to be a little pricey unless you are willing to share someone's basement or room with someone, but there are a few good sites for that. I'd ask some of the local churches for recommendations on where to stay if you're going to share a room, as well.

Have a blast!

hello actor. there are Oakwood apartments on Barham/Pass ave just near Universal Studios. Its true that area all around Hollywood has so many neat theaters around and its near the studios. We are a driving town and as soon as you can buy or rent down at the beach. The Kings, Lakers and sports people love it here. But any actor is welcome too. We want you to like coming to California.

If you are looking to break into the film business, your best bet is somewhere like North Hollywood where there are a lot of apartments and relatively affordable rents while still keeping you close enough to the action that you can make it home in time to change for auditions etc.

For live theater, the Bay Area has a pretty strong theater scene with places like ACT and the Berkeley Rep. In terms of rent, living in the East Bay is the best bet, cheaper rents and good public transportation to take you into the city.

Okay, break a leg!
