It depends on what area of Lithgow you live in. Generally if it's a house with surrounding scrub and trees, you will occasionally see a black snake or python in your backyard but they don't regularly venture INTO houses (unless you live in an old shack with so many entrances/holes that they can't resist). Just be wary of the dangerous snakes (tiger snake, brown etc.) and you will be fine.
