Reviews of Seafarer Drive, River Heads
Midgies are sandflies and small mosquitos. Due to the mangroves around the area they are quite bad - i.e. in summer and spring you can't go outside without getting bitten quite badly.
ahh that makes sense now.
Thanks for the update twinmama.

Yes its sad ! we have to put up with midge on the coastline of Australia. Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast have them too, and in Hervey Bay Toogum, Urangan, Eli Waters, River Heads Booral they are every where here. However you can beat them though, there is no reason for people to get bitten!
I live in River Heads I prevent getting bitten in my home and outside, I am not covered in bites or scars but I have been bitten on many occasions, but it is my fault for letting my guard down
The Council sprays Mosquitos! I still will never live anywhere else in Hervey Bay this is Paradise! so Beautiful and peaceful, with the most fabulous people.
Such a shame that the little buggers can be a problem, but I guess that's the price you pay living next to a beautiful lake.

Hi AJ what lake? are you talking about, we have the Susan Mary River's and the Great Sandy Straits, there is no lakes.
ooppss...sorry I meant river :)
Thats ok AJ, Thanks for your input, have a great day!
Hi there Angel and Adam. Firstly, Midges are sand flies and not to be confused with Mosquitoes. they do not bite but leave a saliva on your skin which is an irritant. Hence the red marks and itching. Midges are not confined to River Heads as a lot of ignoramouses would have you believe. They are present in equal numbers ALL ALONG the eastern seaboard. Mosquitos are so thick in numbers at times, during hatch, that you can literally catch them by the handful, even in Hervey Bay itself. The ONLY way to avoid getting "bitten" by these creatures is to stay inside, use an insecticide to keep them at bay, excuse the pun, or keep away from any coastline. Brisbane is also just as bad yet people deal with it. Mosquitos have a life cycle of 11 days, 7 days before hatching after rain and in still water. Research for yourself, and live in other areas of similar environment to justify your comments. While people do get "bitten" it is not from living at "river Heads". All the surrounding suburbs including "Maryborough" 55kms away, are experiencing the same results from Midges and Mosquitos. I have lived in all three areas.
I sincerely hope this allays any fears you may have about River Heads, I really like this suburb.
Greg.

"City access without the city life"
Seafarer Drive is located directly opposite Fraser Island in the beautiful seaside village of River Heads. What makes River Heads so special is that while it still feels like a sleepy seaside village, it is less than 10 minutes from city amenities including national airport, university, shopping, resorts, and public and private schools.
The beauty of River Heads is its location - 10 minutes from the boom town of Hervey Bay, on a little point across from Fraser Island. Barges to Fraser leave from River Heads, but traffic to the boat ramp is only via the main road, while most of the houses springing up in River Heads are removed from the highway. Turtle Cove, where Seafarer Drive is located, and Bingham Waters, its sister estate, house lovely homes in various styles, from brick three and four bedroom family homes, to palatial estates atop the hills, two story innovative masterpieces, and sturdy owner built homes. Most house blocks are large, with many half and one acre blocks. There are still many vacant blocks in River Heads, and new homes are popping up all over the place. Rent is still very affordable, although house prices are rocketing.
River Heads is the sort of place where you check out every car driving by because there are so few of them! The midgies are quite bad in spring and summer, so make sure you stock up on spray and keep your house screens in good order!
There is a school bus to local schools in Hervey Bay, and some public transport into the Bay. Local playgroup and other activities also available in River Heads, with plenty of other facilities 10 minutes away.
