"Great place if you need to commute to town."

The apartments near the esplanade have a great quality of life. It is a short stroll to most places in town and you are not far from the esplanade for your morning run.

There are plenty of restaurants in the area as well but you have access to everything the city has to offer. Cairns High is a great school. I'm not too sure about the primary schools.

Plenty of busses service the area on their way north and you could practically walk to the airport.

"Ghetto. Beware."

Cairns North is fantastic if you love to be broken into constantly, enjoy fighting in the streets at night or generally feeling unsafe.

"City Living"

Cairns North is ideally located within close proximity to Cairns Base hospital and the Airport. You'll find brilliant cafés, bustling markets and plenty of beaches/ the Esplanade nearby. Relax by a resort pool or spend your days exploring this tropical oasis.

"Pick your building carefully"

Convenient to see the beautiful Esplanade and walk/ride into the city or go the other direction to botanic gardens.
I have lived in two conplex’s in Cairns North.
I have no children and am a shift worker.
First one near muddies/hospital which I could sleep peacefully with no loud noise, it was an older apartment but I love sleeping so this was great. Then I moved onto a stylish modern apartment on smith street near the Esplanade: My friends bike got stolen from the locked apartment complex garage, there was so much noise at night on the weekends, I got sworn at 1am for asking people to please be quiet, I could hear the footsteps so clearly from the people in the apartment above me. I was surprised that when I moved further away from the city that the noise got louder.

I would recommend Cairns North for holiday makers or people who have just moved to Cairns and don’t have reliable transport yet.

"Ideal location for the working professional or young family"

Moved to 10 Digger St 2 years ago and have found it to be ideally located for access to the city and airport. I have a young family and being so close to muddies(esplanade), shops, gymbaroo, childcare centers, schools, and hospitals ( for that very quick labour) has made our lives so much easier. Quiet area don't get much noise from Sheridan St. Neighbours are all friendly and don't mind a chat a lot of our neighbours are professionals who work at the hospital.

Great for

  • Location
  • Esplanade
  • Friendly people

Not great for

  • Northerly winds

"The Lakes Resort & Spa - a great place to live but....."

We have just completed a 6 month lease at the Lakes Resort & Spa in Cairns North. Overall we thourougly enjoyed our time there. Cairns North has excellent links to the city and the Esplanade, is close to the wonderful Centenary Lakes and Botanical Gardens and is within walking distance of trendy Edge Hill. Road noise from Arthur Street/Greenslopes Street was apparent, but was not intrusive. The close proximity to the airport did mean a measure of aircraft noise but even that did not impede our enjoyment of being in the area.

The Lakes Resort itself is super. Not as good a place for a child to live as we had hoped, although our daughter did enjoy bouts of regular swimming in the super pools. We were living in one of the townhouses at the entrance to the resort. The location was noisy due to the proximity to the entry gates. However, it did provide us with a sense of personal space that would not have been apparent in an appartment. And we had a private garage. However, the townhouse (privately leased and not the responsibility to maintain of the resort) was old and tired inside. The property is leased fully furnished, however linen, cutlery and crockery were dirty and unusuable and one of the mattresses was disgusting (we bought our own the day we moved in). Many of the electrical fixtures and fittings didn't work and the taps leaked and were loose (as were many of the doorhandles). The letting agaent, Cairns Property Office, were slow to attend to our requests for attention, ultimately leaving many tasks unattended until we were preparing to vacate. That we are now in dispute over the return of all of our bond money, is of no surprise. I would recomend anyone live at the Lakes (for a time), but not if it meant dealing with these people.

Sadly, the failure of Cairns Property Office to meet our expectations has tainted what should have been a much more rewarding experience.
