"Planes, planes planes! What a noisy place! We had enough we're out!"
Nice place... if you're deaf... 300 to 1200 planes a day...... that's what they say but we're pretty sure it is more than that (couldn't finish that sentence without 2 planes flying overhead). Check Google maps, Mawson lakes is right in the way of the Parafield airport (another plane flying over now). We've been here for more than a year, we're leaving, we had (another one) enough. And another one (hate these 2 engine planes, they're the noisiest!). If it wasn't for the airport, we would be quite happy to stay as the lake is nice and the dog park is awesome but engine noises of low flying planes from 5.30am to 11pm most days (yes public holidays and Sundays too!!). Another one.... and sometimes in the middle of the night too... you think you won't hear it when sleeping deeply? Trust me you do. Another one (yes seriously, not making this up)...
BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO MOVE HERE, come and have fish and chips on the side of the lake any day (another one), Thursday nights are terrible, you'll realise I'm not kidding. Another 2 engine one, and I'm a fast writter.....trying to watch your favorite series with the window open is just impossible... anyway you get the idea (another one) ...
All the best, avoid Mawson lakes, I whish I had asked people that lived here (another one in the distance) before we decided to move here....(last 2 engine one just for you )
Who are you calling stupid?! I only moved to Mawson lakes because we didn't have the choice at the time. Moving from overseas and finding the first job available without a vehicle. I spent a bit of time there before moving and worried about the amount of planes flying right overhead I asked people that I knew lived here before if planes were a problem back then.... they replied No, but it was 15years ago, the amount of planes as been multiplied since to the point where it is an absolute pain. You're happy with it? Good on you, stay there. A lot of people aren't. If it wasn't for the constant noise I would have happily staid there too.
The planes are non stop, 279,000 take offs per year.
Eventually they'll move towards electric planes (plausible for these little ones they use for flight school, see: Velis Electro) and then the noise problem will be gone.
The airport opened in 1955. I find these complaints similar to when I lived in Newcastle. People near Williamtown would complain about the RAAF base....... that had been there for decades. Or move into Hunter St and lobby for the bars to close earlier. The logic is kinda breathtakingly stupid to me. And I happily live here.
