"Flood prone disaster area"
You do not want to live in Milton as it floods and well overpriced. Also it is close by to a cemetery which is very bad luck, be extremely careful if you are actually considering purchasing here.
"Can still find cheapies!"
Yes you can still buy a house in the 300's in Carrara. Great for families and for those that love to play golf.
"Average suburb"
Average suburb tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Brisbane CBD. Quite pricey homes in the area yet every so often affordable houses pop up. Limited demographic more suitable for families and retirees.
"Great Country Lifestyle"
Great country lifestyle! Only downside is the recent floods and mini inland tsunami that has hit gatton and toowoomba, god bless all those effected!
"Reasonably priced area"
Bray Park is a reasonably affluent suburb nearby to the CBD and only an hour or so drive to the sunny coast. Great parks to kick the footy around or have a BBQ.
Can still buy a home at a reasonable price in Bray Park.
"Nice and quiet"
Brighton is a nice friendly and relaxed environment for singles, couples or families.
"Great for investment"
I think the are is great for investment and have one investment in an estate in Redbank Plains. I would not live there personally as I am a single male and love living in Brizzy CBD.

"Tree lined suburb of Fig Tree Pocket"
Free tree pocket is around 30 minutes to the heart of Brisbane city in heavy traffic around 20 minutes if driving off peak times. The suburb is filled with trees and serene natural setting. You will see some great newly constructed homes of all sorts here. I once went to an open home here and the house looked like a mini rainforest "ewok village" from "star wars".

"Love it or hate it!"
I am sorry but for cost of living, lifestyle and weather i just really do not enjoy spending time in Melbourne even though it is so rich in culture! Perhaps if i was wealthier and well connected it would be a different story, i dont know what it is just that everyone seems unhappy or grumpy.

Ok, petejames perhaps with that attitude maybe its best that you don't live in Melbourne. It appears that you are really being very general in your summation and I for one enjoy the culture, am not unhappy or grumpy. Bye the way where do you hail from.
Oh sorry, I just realized that you are from Sydney. I guess that explains a lot and I my sympathies to you.
Well said cinnamon! Typical Sydneysider bleating on about Melbourne. Bit rich of someone from Sydney of all places to be going on about the cost of living, lifestyle and weather.
There are only two types of people in this world.. Melburnians, and people that wish they were Melburnians!
Cinnamon sorry if my review was too generalised for you. I was actually born in Melbourne not Sydney. I grew up in Sydney and moved to QLD at around 13 years of age. These are the main reasons why i prefer living in QLD over VIC and or NSW Sydney.
1. You can buy a house on the Goldy or in Brisbane in inner city on large alotment size for well under 1 mil. Whereas to buy a house in East suburbs of Melb you might get a block 1/3 of the size for the same money.
2. I HATE the weather in Melbourne everytime i goto Melbourne for work it is raining cold and dismal. I love sunshine, blue skies and the best beaches in the world. QLD owns you on beaches!
3. Food, Fuel, clothes etc all cost less in Brisbane over Melbourne. Its really a different culture...i can wear boardies and t-shirt cost me nothing and feel comfortable in QLD. Whereas i need to be quite dressed up in nice expensive gear to go out and feel comfortable.
4. Melburnians seem to think everyone else is inferior and are very 'clicky' and even 'snobby'.
5. I and enjoy my Rugby and not a big fan of AFL although do like the sport
I travel through Australia and internationally for work and just find that for me personally Melbourne does not suit me as an individual. Nothing that stands out to me and makes me want to move there permanently. I would choose Sydney over Melbourne anyday of the week.
Cinnamon if you assume you make and ASS out of U and ME! I am not some typical Sydney sider =)
Oh Petejames, as Rick said in Casablanca, "Louis this could be the start of a beautiful friendship" See how easy it was to add substance to your review. And because of that it is so much more enjoyable to read. I suppose you did leave Melbourne to move to Sydney whilst still very young and probably did not form any attachment to the area.
Next time before you visit Melbourne, look up the weather report because I can assure you that we do manage to have weather that is sunny and blue skies. However we also say in melbourne that if you stick around for a while you will have the 4 seasons in one day. Something that in a quirky sort of way some of us take pride in. Weird hey.
However I do agree Qld does rock in the beaches department.
As to dressing up in expensive gear to go out in Melbourne surely you wear things other than boardies and t=shirts when you go out in Qld. I know that there are nice places there that have some dress standards.
I think I have a difference perspective on the clicky and snobby aspect of your review. Those Melburnians that I know don't hold themselves to be superior to other Australians, maybe you have been mixing with a crook group.
I don't think that I said you were some typical Sydney sider, because I am not sure what that would mean, I think I just thought that you had come from there because I read some of your other reviews.
Anyway I will look forward to reading more of your reviews, ( with specifics not generalities)
From a different perspective, I am from Perth so I have no allegiance to any of the Eastern Seaboard capitals but I have found Melbourne to be the most enjoyable.
The people there seemed more friendly and willing to help tourists like me. The weather can be fickle but I have found that to be the same in Sydney and Brisbane too. I was in Melbourne for the 08 Grand Prix and it was over 40 for the 4 days and no rain at all in the 8 days I was there. Unusual, yes, but every time I have been to Sydney and Brisbane, there has been at least 1 day of rain, maybe I just picked the wrong times.
I enjoy Melbourne so much that I invested there by purchasing a unit. Sorry, but both Sydney and Brisbane get my thumbs down. Adelaide would be my number 2. Forget Darwin and Hobart, they are not even in the race.
I look forward to comments from you all especially cinnamon.
Cheers from a Western Australian where everything closes at sunset ,except the pubs.
It's so weird, but I never hear of people not enjoying Melbourne. The only thing to complain about would be the weather, because we can sometimes have 4 seasons in one day.
But that's about all I can think ok. PeteJames you do have some valid points, all of which are personal opinions, and most of which I don't agree with (or just personally don't find happens to me)
Thanks for elaborating though, that's what makes StreetAdvisor so great, the wealth of information from the locals!

Ying/yang...you summed it up beautifully...you can wear shorts and T shirt that costs next to nothing in QLD....hmmm..stylish.....I love the beaches in Brisbane....oh sorry, you don't have any......You say on one hand that melb prices are too expensive, but you would live in Sydney...coz its cheaper?......If cold and wet is no good, then stay away from places like Paris/ NY/ London.....Pfffttt...professional complainer!
Also quick quiz. Whats the difference between Yoghurt and Queensland? You need culture to make yoghurt.......
It amazes me how defensive the I stand with Melbourne crew get. The city has pros & cons like any other. To constantly refer to the marketing campaign voting it worlds most liveable city reeks of insecurity more than pride. Its no better than Sydney just different. Get rid of the chip on shoulder.
"The finer things in life!"
I grew up in sydney and love it very much! It would be my dream to buy a nice federation or circa home in the eastern suburbs or north shore. I just wish it was not so expensive. Sydney has culture and you there are just so many things to see and places to go!

"Lock your doors and buy crimsafe!"
Palm Becah is located in a idylic spot on the shores of the Gold Coast. Although problems form the top end down. Owners of multi million dollar homes losing there land from the sea take back the sand. Then you have criminals robbing and assualting in palm beach currumbin beachside.
Not a place that i rate highly!

Palm Beach happens to be one of the lower suburbs of the Gold Coast, second worst only to Labrador. There seems to be a high exposure to shady characters. Run. Run as fast as you can and don't look back
I have lived and worked in Palm Beach since 1974 and through the years there has been a big shift in the quality of the area. As you drive around you see renovation, new homes being built, shops being built, resorts being built and other resorts on the drawing board multi million dollar water front homes people are spending up big time in Palmy.
It is all good in my opinion and we would not live any where else, check out Tallebudgera creek and Currumbin creek the beachs are brilliant.
PALM BEACH YOU CANT GO WRONG ENJOY IT!!!
When on earth did u live in Palm Beach. Have been there since 2000 and have seen none of the crims u have encountered!
The Esplanade is the beachfront street at the Tallebudgera Beach section of Palm Beach (north of 21st avenue groyne). Residents are very happy, relaxed people.
Try not to take ArtherKnight comments too seriously, if u look at his profile he rates every street as terrible. Time to try a new city Arthur perhaps!!
I think the wrong area has been reviewed, i'm not sure where Palm Becah is but i think Palm Beach is great. I've only been here just over 12 months but have been visiting since i was a kid an have not seen any of the problems listed above.
Palm Beach has some good areas, yes, however it also has alot of bad areas, especially in the middle of Palm Beach. There is also alot of Community Housing throughout Palm Beach, and sadly alot of those areas are not nice at all. When we first moved to the area, we called the police after having our front door almost kicked in by a neighbour (holiday unit, neighbour was drunk and angry), after listening for hours while the other neighbour abused her young son for hours, and when they arrived almost 3 hours later (despite being 500m down the road) we were told they were flat out as usual, and this happens alot of the time and is due to the high amount of housing commission, centrelink recipitents, and high crime rate but since its a holiday destination its kept quiet. We moved to a ddifferent section in a security gated complex near Tallebudgera and our neighbours in the complex are lovely..... the housing units around the area are not. Palm Beach has alot of units, its that type of place and you get what you pay for. If you are willing to pay higher prices for higher standards, you will be fine although to be fair, there are some areas (not many) where its nice despite the low costs. The local school is ok however Elanora, Currumbin or Tallebudgera schools are all much better than Palm Beach. The local school does not cater well at all for children with special needs and despite saying they are an anti bullying school, they do not actually do much about it at all. Sadly after a year of constant ongoing bullying that despite many complaints has not been dealt with, we had to go to Qld Education and also move our childelsewhere. We were even told by an Education Officer that Palm Beach School shoukd be the last choice when considering a school. Having said this, there are other families who are lucky enough to not have had issues and are quite happy there. There are alot of beautiful areas, parks etc around the area, but be warned, the beaches are severly eroded and local council unwilling to correct this any time soon. If you want a good family friendly, safe area to raise your children, you are better to head to areas such as Currumbin, Tugun etc and Iif you want an honest opinion, walk in to the local police station and ask them for their honest opinion about Palm Beach, both before and after dark. Obviously these are my beliefs and opinions on the area and will not be shared by everyone.
Hi all, can anyone advise where / which streets the Community Housing is please? Thanks, Laura
i too would love to know where the community housing is ? and which are best/worst areas of palm beach (for a family)? Thanks :)
new to site and having problems asking questions. Would also seem a lot of real estate agents on this site so vested interest . What are the safer streets in Palm Beach? Is Miami a better area ? Streets in Miami? Burleigh too $$$$ so looking at surrounding areas preferably non drug dealers streets . Suggestions appreciated. Thx
I would like to move to Palmy having recently moved from sunny coast to Broadbeach but knowing its not where we want to be. Not as family friendly and a bit too much of an anonymous urban feel. On the couple of occasions I have visited Palmy I have noticed some druggie types on the highway itself but other than that I think its a great spot and perfectly situated.
I lived in Palmy for 5 yrs and loved every minute! While there's some riff raff (isn't there everywhere?) it's not as bad as the rest of the coast. Location is great, in the middle of the coast, yet unaffected by the craziness of either end. Anyone who complains about Palmy doesn't deserve to live there!
"Want WOW in Sovereign Islands?"
If you have money then sovereign islands is a beautiful gated estate with mansions from 1.5 million to 10+ million dollar homes positioned on the broad water. Sovereign is amazing i just wish i had enough money to live here and afford a mega yacht !

"Bundall best for bargains!"
I know recently properties have been selling way under value in Bundall. This suburb is an absolute gold mine and is part of the golden triangle as it carries the 4217 suburb. There are still some very cheap waterfront blocks for sale here at good prices. The best part is the wholesale shopping all the way along Upton street and the Gold Coast turf club!
BUY BUY BUY! seriously undervalued i believe

"Ipswich is dreadful"
Who would ever want to visit Ipswich i really dont know i really just dont like the vibe it sends off and thats all i guess i can say =)
You can’t say you truly know a place until you live there, we moved to Ipswich about 8 months ago to buy our 1st home. There are fantastic rivers for fishing and swimming if you know the spots, Ipswich is defiantly growing with people moving here on a daily bases and new shops opening quite regularly. Some people are rough around the edgers but your have to remember where Ipswich is located; you are obviously not going to have a lot of men in business attire, the men out here are hard working labour types (along with a lot of the women) as that is the main type of work in and around Ipswich, Abattoir Mining, Farming, Air Base and so forth. I have travelled and lived in a lot of places and the locals here are no different to anywhere else except maybe being a little more relaxed then people that in live directly in Brisbane and more down to earth then people that live on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast (lived in all 3 places + more). If you love the beautiful country and want to bring up a family with good schools then Ipswich is a great place to live, with helpful locals that still give you a wave as you pass on a country road, In my opinion Ipswich is cleaner and less polluted then the Gold Coast and Brisbane, and MUCH less crowded then the Sunshine Coast, as beautifully as it is. FANTASTIC for family life.
I do agree with bexfreedom. Sorry but I was born and raised in Ipswich and have moved to c.q. 2 years ago. I prefer it to Brisbane - never put Brisbane down though - and it is a fantastic place!
I lived in Ipswich for four years and three different suburbs. It is without a doubt the worst place I have ever lived in. Do not move there.
Please don't eat out of the bremer river
"Nice coastal town"
Ok yes when i was growing up in sydney we sometimes had trips to Ulla Dulla and me and my sister Chloe would say to each other 'Ulla Dulla nothing Duller'. Lovely location just not suited to most people as a permanent home. A small qwerky coastal town south of Wollongong.

"Good place for rentals"
'Pac Pines' my friends use to call it, located next to gaven. It was funny because one of my friends kept saying 'pac pines' and i had no idea what he was talking about. I went out there one day and there was a whole new community i felt quite excited.
You go out there now and it really does look dull and plain because almost all the house look very similar because the same developer / builders obviously constructed these houses. Too expensive for what it is to buy although good priced rentals on nice brand new homes!

"Labrador or Scabrador?"
There are just so many nicknames for Labrador and just so much crime its absurd. I remember going into a retail cafe and they sold ice pipes it was disgusting. Now days drugs in labrador is an epidemic and its a known fact. Several shootings have also happend in recent year so you know crime is on the rise. Having said that the 'Chirn Park' labrador side is very beautiful and has some great homes.
Either way probably best to buy some crimsafe and put on all your doors and windows and you will have now problem.

I think this person has had a bad experiance at some stage. I for one do NOT agree with anything he has said about labrador. However chirn park is an ok place .
I think petejames has not been to Labrador for a few years. 20 years ago when the area was full of old fibros and 3 storey walkups along Frank Street, there was a drug problem. Just about all these buildings have now gone and so have the problems. East of Government Road down to the Broadwater is really very nice. Since the developers have pumped millions of dollars into Labrador over the past few years, the town has turned into a desirable place to live. Labrador is one of the few seaside spots along the Gold Coast with hills. I think Labrador has lots of character & huge potential.
"Helensvale hit hard by financial crisis"
I know Helensvale has had some of the highest number of mortgagee in possesion for suburbs in all of Australia. Now when you think about how hard some parts of the western suburbs were hit by the global meltdown why has Helensvale been hit so hard?
I believe the area has been over valued for some time and asking prices dont reflect reasonable prices in order for buyers to grab a bargain. Having said that there may still be a few mortgagee sales and maybe now people are very desperate.

Which inner suburb is less likely to flood as I am moving there soon to work at local hospital?
