I was wondering that too, there are plenty of high schools within 10 minutes in other suburbs. Yarraville is a great suburb for families to live, my guess is zivmis just prefers living in mcleod, I see everything is amazing in mcleod according to zivmis ........hahaha :)
I wish that was true, what I'd give to chg my decision in 2001 to live West & have continued to live west despite my first hand experience with crime! Just trying to help others thinking living closer in the west is the way to go, especially if they are going to have a family. I should have listened to all the friends living East, but being from regional Victoria which can have a bad rep, I figured it was being overplayed. I was wrong.
OK, I'm not sure you have given us any extra detail. Could you be more detailed and less generalised? I think it will help others make there own decisions based on yours and others experiences...
Yarraville is absolutely overrated! and dare I say well over priced! The place has lost its charm. It was a great place to live when 'Up and Coming" - 10 years ago. Crime is an issue....
Emmij I'm not sure why you think the crime rate in Yarraville is an issue. I've lived in Newport, Spotswood and now Yarraville for 10 years and have never really had an issue with crime, other than a break in/burglary. Further out west is more problematic with crime statistics and perhaps Footscray - where has your opinion of the crime stats in Yarraville come from?
Good pick up. While I think there are hoons that cruise with loud music and engines, I dont think this is the case all the time and everywhere.
I would certainly try and not get the hoons mixed up with the genuine car enthusiasts that choose Williamstown for a very enjoyable cruises. These cars can have loud engines and are often in the form of Hot Rods, but absolutely add to the feel of the area. Not to mention bring beautiful examples of historic cars to the scenery of the already beautiful Williamstown.
On the other hand, if you choose to hang around the Coast, specifically the beach, you will find that hoons that play loud music and rev there unsightly hotted up cars. While this can be annoying, I do think it is somewhat a byproduct of an area that is privileged to have a beach. I doubt that the likes of Ocean Grove, Torquay, Altona, Brighton Beach and the like would be clean of such hoons.

Hey zivmis, I don't understand why you feel Yarraville is for families. Could you share your thoughts and experiences with the rest of us to explain?
