Is Ridgewood still a safe place to live ?

Greetings All, I am moving to Woodbine Street in Ridgewood next month. Do you still think it is a safe place to live and how hard it will be to get to Manhattan through train. Is it safe to be back home after midnight during weekends ? Any thoughts about paying $1700 for a two bed (one more like a small office) with 1 and a half bath ? If anyone has other recommendations then please feel free to suggest. I would highly appreciate your help and time .. Thanks in advance
